  1. 1. Reconstructions of historical metal emissions and their dispersion in the environment

    Author : Mats Eklund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : A material flow perspective has been applied in the study of the emission, immission and dispersion of heavy metals from three historical point sources in activity during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, with the aim of assessing the duration of pollution. The companies studied are Lovers alumworks (1723-1840), Atvidaberg copperworks (1750-1900) and NIFE-Jungner in Fliseryd (1910-1974), all situated in south-eastern Sweden. READ MORE

  2. 2. Short term water heat storage : an experimental and numerical investigation of phenomena that affect the degree of thermal stratification

    Author : Roger Hermansson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Thermal stratification was studied by measurements of the temperature and velocity fields in water heat storage's and by numerical simulations. The work includes experimental investigations in three model heat storage's of different size and comparisons to numerical simulations for two of the storages. READ MORE

  3. 3. Europeisk identitetspolitik : EU:s demokratibistånd till Polen och Turkiet : [EU democratic aid to Poland and Turkey]

    Author : Åsa Lundgren; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the motives behind EU support for Poland's and Turkey's democratic development. Since the end of the Cold War, like many Western governments and international organisations, the EU has made the promotion of democracy one of its main foreign policy ambitions. READ MORE

    Abstract : A commonly held assumption among literary critics is that the motif of the European journey is exhausted in American literature in the post-World-War-II period. Challenging this view, the present study claims that the Old World journey narrative lives on, but in new guises, and that it continues to be a forum for the discussion of American national identity. 5. 5. Selected Topics in Homogenization

    Author : Jens Persson; Anders Holmbom; Liselott Flodén; Marianne Olsson Lindberg; Mårten Gulliksson; Peter Wall; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; homogenization theory; H-convergence; two-scale convergence; very weak two-scale convergence; multiscale convergence; very weak multiscale convergence; evolution-multiscale convergence; very weak evolution-multiscale convergence; λ-scale convergence; non-periodic linear elliptic problems; evolution-multiscale linear parabolic problems; evolution-multiscale monotone parabolic problems; detection of scales of heterogeneity;

    Abstract : The main focus of the present thesis is on the homogenization of some selected elliptic and parabolic problems. More precisely, we homogenize: non-periodic linear elliptic problems in two dimensions exhibiting a homothetic scaling property; two types of evolution-multiscale linear parabolic problems, one having two spatial and two temporal microscopic scales where the latter ones are given in terms of a two-parameter family, and one having two spatial and three temporal microscopic scales that are fixed power functions; and, finally, evolution-multiscale monotone parabolic problems with one spatial and an arbitrary number of temporal microscopic scales that are not restricted to be given in terms of power functions.
