  1. 1. Susceptibility effects in MRI and 1H MRS. The spurious echo artifact and susceptibility measurements

    Author : Åsa Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; 1H MRS; susceptibility; spurious echo; artifact; artefact;

    Abstract : When performing magnetic resonance (MR) experiments, a strong homogeneous magnetic field is often preferred, especially in clinical applications. However, all objects that are placed in the magnetic field will disturb the field homogeneity and cause local magnetic field gradients. READ MORE

  2. 2. Measurement accuracy. Applications in X-ray computed tomography (CT) dose reduction and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) volume selection

    Author : Göran Starck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CT; Radiation exposure; Image quality; Tissue characterisation; MRS volume selection; Signal profile; Phantom; Magnetic susceptibility;

    Abstract : X-ray computed tomography (CT) images of transaxial cross sections of the body can be used to determine tissue volumes. However, the considerable radiation dose associated with high-quality clinical images has greatly limited the use of CT for this application. READ MORE

  3. 3. Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Brain Tumors - Clinical Applications

    Author : Isabella Björkman-Burtscher; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiology; Clinical physics; Localization; Abscess; Brain; Tumor; Spectroscopy; Magnetic Resonance; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : Aims: · to present a test phantom and test method for evaluation of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) single volume localization techniques regarding signal contamination; · to describe the introduction of 1H-MRS in the daily routine of a standard MR-unit; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve preoperative diagnostic accuracy in patients scheduled for stereotactic biopsy of intracranial mass lesions; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve diagnostics and therapy control in patients with brain abscesses; · to test the hypothesis that 1H-MRS might be useful for differentiation of brain tumors, based on metabolic changes in tissue across brain lesions or surrounding tissue. Results and conclusions: · The test phantom and test method allow quality assessment with good reproducibility. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantitative Magnetic Resonance in Diffuse Neurological and Liver Disease

    Author : Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Peter Lundberg; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Marcel Warntjes; Eva Lund; Göran Starck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Abstract : Introduction: Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is one of the most important diagnostic tools in modern medicine. Compared to other imaging modalities, it provides superior soft tissue contrast of all parts of the body and it is considered to be safe for patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tumor lipid status and the responses to therapy in neuroblastoma : with emphasis on treatment monitoring by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy

    Author : Magnus Lindskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the aberrant lipid and phospholipid metabolism of neuroblastoma was exploited for tumor monitoring and as target of experimental therapy. Neuroblastoma is the most common and deadly solid tumor of childhood. Since neuroblastoma cells are highly proliferative, aberrantly regulated metabolic pathways would be expected. READ MORE
