  1. 1. Public Private Business Models for Defence Acquisition - A Multiple Case Study of Defence Acquisition Projects in the UK

    Author : Thomas Ekström; Andreas Norrman; Peter Tatham; Teknisk logistik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Defence transformation; military logistics; supply chain; support chain; defence acquisition; Business Model; Public Private Participation; Cooperation and Partnership; Value-for-Money; performance; risk; multiple case study; misalignment; transformation av försvaret; militär logistik; försörjnings- och underhållskedja; försvarsanskaffning; affärsmodell; offentlig privat samverkan; valuta för pengarna; prestation; multipel fallstudie; inkonsekvens; defence transformation;

    Abstract : Since the ending of the Cold War, the defence sector, particularly the areas of military logistics and defence acquisition, has been undergoing a comprehensive transformation. There are several factors that explain this transformation: changes in defence and security policies for nations and organisations; reductions in defence expenditure; participation in Peace Support Operations; Lessons Learned from these operations, especially in the area of logistics; revolutionary development in the area of Information and Communication Technology; emergence of novel Commercial Best Practises in the areas of business and business logistics; and changes in the legislation regarding the conduct of public procurement in Europe. 2. 2. Defence and signalling in Potato-Phytophthora infestans interactions

    Author : Ashfaq Ali; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phytophthora infestans; Plant defence; hypersensitive response; resistance; susceptibility;

    Abstract : Potato is one of the major food crops and its yield is severely affected by late blight disease caused by Phytophthora infestans. P. infestans has the ability to manipulate plant defence signalling by secreting effector molecules causing so called effector triggered susceptibility. READ MORE

  3. 3. Grazer-induced responses in marine phytoplankton

    Author : Johanna Bergkvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; defence; dinoflagellate; diatoms; paralytic shellfish toxins; polyunsaturated aldehydes; chain formation;

    Abstract : Phytoplankton are the most important primary producers in the world’s oceans, yet little is known of how they avoid the constant threats from the pelagic grazers. From land it is well known that plants defend themselves by having thorns or producing compounds unpalatable to grazers. READ MORE

  4. 4. Exploring the Dynamics of Security Community-Building in the Post-Cold War Era : Spain, Morocco and the European Union

    Author : Niklas Bremberg; Jan Hallenberg; Charlotte Wagnsson; Jacob Westberg; Ian Manners; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; security; community; practice; institution; constructivism; crisis management; transgovernmental; network; European Union; Spain; Morocco; trade; defence; civil protection; Political Science; statsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to make a theoretical as well as an empirical contribution to the debate on the security community concept in International Relations (IR) by way of conducting a study of the European Union (EU) as a security community-building institution in the case of Spain and Morocco. The security community concept originally sought to define the conditions under which the threat of inter-state war would be mitigated through social transaction and expectations of peaceful change between societies and states. 5. 5. Computational fluid-dynamics investigations of vortex generators for flow-separation control

    Author : Florian von Stillfried; Arne Johansson; Stefan Wallin; Jonathan Morrison; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow-separation control; vane vortex generator; vortex generator jet; zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer; adverse-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer; statistical modelling; turbulence; Reynolds stress- transport model; computational fluid dynamics;

    Abstract : Many flow cases in fluid dynamics face undesirable flow separation due to ad-verse pressure gradients on wall boundaries. This occurs, for example, due togeometrical reasons as in a highly curved turbine-inlet duct or on flow-controlsurfaces such as wing trailing-edge flaps within a certain angle-of-attack range.
