  1. 1. Receptor-ligand interactions of the human 5-HT1B receptor : A site-directed mutagenesis study

    Author : Charlotta Grånäs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; 5-hydroxytryptamine; serotonin; 5-HT1B receptor; site-directed mutagenesis; signal transduction; sumatriptan; G protein; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : The 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin)1B receptor is one of thirteen G protein-coupled 5-HT receptors. 5-HT is known to influence temperature regulation, pain, cognition and sexual and feeding behaviours. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of novel 5-HT1B PET radioligands

    Author : Anton Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Positron emission tomography (PET) is a useful tool for studying the central nervous system (CNS) in living subjects. PET is a non-invasive imaging technique that can visualize biochemical process such as receptor-ligand interactions and has been utilized for several neurotransmitter systems including the serotoninergic system. 3. 3. Serotonergic receptor subtypes in learning and memory : focus on 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B and 5-HT2A receptors

    Author : Maria Lüttgen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Serotonin; 5-HT1A receptor; 5-HT1B receptor; 5-HT2A receptor; acetylcholine; NMDA receptor; water maze; passive avoidance; septum; hippocampus; teaming; memory; immunohistochemistry; mRNA;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study how serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtypes can influence hippocampus/amygdala-dependent teaming and memory using the water maze (WM) and the passive avoidance (PA) tasks in rodents, and to provide a cellular correlate to the behavioral results using histochemical methods. Glutamatergic neurons in the trisynaptic circuit of the hippocampus are believed to be important for spatial teaming and memory as well as synaptic plasticity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modulation of acetylcholine release by serotonergic 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B receptors : a microdialysis study in the awake rat

    Author : Xiao Jing Hu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Microdialysis; Acetylcholine; Serotonin; 5-HT1A receptor; 5-HT1B receptor; Frontal cortex; Ventral hippocampus;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to investigate the effects of the 5-HT1A receptor antagonist robalzotan (NAD-299) and the 5-HT1B receptor antagonist NAS-181 ((R)-(+)-2-(3-morpholinomethyl-2Hchromen-8-yl) oxymethyl-morpholine methanesulfonate) on cholinergic, glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission in the rat brain in vivo. The extracellular levels of acetylcholine (ACh), glutamate (Glu) and GABA were monitored by microdialysis in the frontal cortex (FC) and ventral hippocampus (VHipp) in separate groups of awake rats. 5. 5. Receptor Upregulation and MAPK Activity in Arteries and Bronchi Following Secondhand Smoke Exposure

    Author : Lei Cao; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coronary arteries; cerebral arteries; 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor; endothelin receptor; secondhand smoke exposure; bronchi;

    Abstract : Cigarette smoking is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Contractile receptor changes have been observed in several vascular diseases. The intracellular mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways are suggested to be associated with receptor upregulation. READ MORE
