  1. 1. On the Role of Polyamines and Microvesicles in Tumour Development. Regulation by Hypoxia and Implications for Therapeutic Intervention of Cancer

    Author : Johanna Welch; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heparan sulphate proteoglycans; cancer; hypoxia; polyamines; microvesicles; anti-angiogenic therapy; angiogenesis;

    Abstract : Novel strategies for specific tumour cell targeting are necessary in order to improve survival rates and to reduce side effects of current therapies in cancer patients. Hypoxia is a hallmark of solid tumours and one of the major driving forces for tumour progression. READ MORE

  2. 2. Eating Disorders : Steps Towards an Increased Understanding

    Author : Elisabeth Welch; Ata Ghaderi; Timo Hursti; David Clinton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Eating disorders; disordered eating; norms; perfectionism; mediator; moderator; males; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Eating disorders and disordered eating attitudes and behaviors are characterized by an over-evaluation of weight and shape, under or over-controlled eating, as well as engagement in compensatory behaviors. The disorders are associated with psychological suffering, acute and long-term health impairments, a high rate of suicide attempts as well as an increased risk of mortality. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electrodynamic and Mechanical Spectroscopy Method Development and Analysis Relating to Materials with Biotechnological Applications

    Author : Ken Welch; Maria Strømme; Ragnar Ek; Bengt-Erik Mellander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Materials with biotechnological applications and materials that interact with the biological environment play an ever increasing role in our lives and society. In order to be able to tailor specific properties of these materials to suit their intended applications, it is important to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between the material structure and its function. 4. 4. Thermal boundary conditions based on field modeling of fires : Heat transfer calculations in CFD and FE models with special regards to fire exposure represented with adiabatic surface temperatures

    Author : Joakim Sandström; Stephen Welch; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : Combining computer fluid dynamic, CFD, models with finite element, FE, models to calculate temperature in fire exposed structures can reduce design temperatures in structures while still obtaining the level of structural fire safety stipulated by society. A better understanding of heat transfer and the concept of adiabatic surface temperatures, AST, the transition of data between models can be simplified and more accurate temperature predictions can be made.
