1. Signaling for color change in melanophores : and a biosensor application
Abstract : Melanophores are dark brown pigment cells located in the skin of fish, amphibia, reptiles, and many invertebrates. The color of the animal can change via rearrangement of pigment granules, melanosomes, in the cells. The dark melanophores can either hide colorful cells so that the animal appears dark, or let through colors from underneath. READ MORE

2. β-Adrenergic Signalling Through mTOR
Abstract : Adrenergic signalling is part of the sympathetic nervous system and is activated upon stimulation by the catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine. This regulates heart rate, energy mobilization, digestion and helps to divert blood flow to important organs. READ MORE

3. The faintest stars : A study of white, red and brown dwarfs
Abstract : The local space density of the faintest stars, including M dwarfs, white dwarfs and brown dwarfs has been studied by two different methods.By using dark nebulae as opaque outer screens, the luminosity functions of M dwarfs and white dwarfs were studied as volume-limited and dynamically unbiassed foreground samples. 4. Distribution and Biogeochemical Cycling of Arsenic In Grey and Brown Sand Aquifers in the Bengal Delta Plains (India)
Abstract : An elevated level of Arsenic (As) in aquifers from India and Bangladesh affecting the human health has been widely reported since the late 1980s. The thesis aim is to investigate the present status of As contamination and biogeochemical cycling with direct role of diverse indigenous bacterial communities in As cycling in the Bengal Delta Plain (BDP) aquifers in Nadia district, West Bengal (India). 5. Toxicity of Inorganic Aluminium in Humic Streams
Abstract : Aluminium (Al) has been recognised as a main toxic factor alongside pH in acidified water ecosystems. The toxic effect of Al has been attributed to inorganic Al (Ali), though there are few in situ studies in ambient humic waters which are the focus of this thesis. READ MORE
