1. Pharmacological interventions against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury
Abstract : Background: Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in the industrialised world. Although the concept of early restoration of coronary blood-flow constitutes an important factor to reduce the injury caused by myocardial ischaemia, reperfusion in itself can aggravate the damage to myocardial tissue, a phenomenon denoted myocardial reperfusion injury. 2. Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptors and Signal Transduction : Effector Output in Relation to G-Protein Coupling and Signalling Cross-Talk
Abstract : The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) subfamily includes three different subtypes, α2A-, α2B- and α2C-AR, all believed to exert their function through heterotrimeric Gi/o-proteins. The present study was undertaken in order to investigate subtype differences in terms of cellular response and to explore other potential signalling pathways of α2-ARs. READ MORE

3. Asymmetric Synthesis of C-Glycosylated Amino Acids : Incorporation in Collagen Glycopeptides and Evaluation in a Model for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Abstract : This thesis describes stereoselective syntheses of four amino acids, three of which are C-glycosidic analogues of glycosylated amino acids. The overall goal of the project was to probe the interactions between MHC molecules, glycopeptide antigens and T cell receptors, that are essential for development of collagen induced arthritis. 4. Reactivity of Transition-Metal Compounds from Electronic Structure
Abstract : Transition-metal carbides (TMC's), nitrides, and sulfides belong to the class of materials known as transition-metal compounds (TMX's). Besides having intriguing properties, these materials are relevant for, e.g., growth and catalysis. READ MORE

5. Low temperature CO oxidation over Pt/CeO2
Abstract : The oxidation of CO to CO2 is a widely studied reaction not only for its practical applications but also for its apparent simplicity. CO oxidation is, in fact, often used as a model reaction for other oxidation reactions. READ MORE
