  1. 1. Production in a State of Abundance : Valuation and Practice in the Swedish Meat Supply Chain

    Author : Jonas Bååth; Patrik Aspers; Tora Holmberg; Turo-Kimmo Lehtonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; abundance; production; valuation; Swedish meat industry; supply chain; post-scarcity society; economic sociology; food studies; agriculture; grocery retail; pragmatism; practice theory; ethnography; Sociologi; Sociology;

    Abstract : This thesis is a sociological contribution to the study of abundance. It discusses the case of Swedish meat producers and how they persist in producing pork and beef despite a lack of demand and competitive disadvantages compared with foreign suppliers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Scarcity, Abundance and Sufficiency: Contributions to Social and Economic Theory

    Author : Adel Daoud; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economics; sociology; scarcity; abundance; sufficiency;

    Abstract : Economic sociology has established itself as a strong and vibrant field in the social sciences. A number of significant studies have been conducted on the relation between the economy and society: on firms, markets, networks, money, and general action theory. But little has been done on the issues of scarcity, abundance, and sufficiency (SAS). READ MORE

  3. 3. Organic Phosphorus Compounds in Aquatic Sediments : Analysis, Abundance and Effects

    Author : Joakim Ahlgren; Emil Rydin; Monica Waldebäck; Lars Tranvik; Karin Markides; Sven Blomqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Organic phosphorus; aquatic sediment; eutrophication; NMR; internal loading; sample preparation; extraction; degradation; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) is often the limiting nutrient in lacustrine and brackish eco-systems, and enhanced input of P into an aquatic system might therefore negatively impact the environment. Because modern waste water manage-ment have reduced external P input to surface waters, internal P loading from the sediment has become one of the main P sources to aquatic ecosys-tems, in which relatively unknown organic P compounds seem to be more active in P recycling than previously thought. 4. 4. Ecology and Conservation of the Baltic Proper Harbour Porpoise

    Author : Ida Carlén; Anders Angerbjörn; Julia Carlström; Martin Biuw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Harbour porpoise; Baltic Sea; distribution; abundance; bycatch; conservation policy; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : The Baltic Proper harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) population is listed by IUCN as Critically Endangered, but conservation action has been lacking for decades, partly due to very limited knowledge on important ecological parameters such as distribution range and abundance. This thesis provides some of the information needed for implementing effective conservation. 5. 5. Studies on Baltic Sea mysids

    Author : Martin Ogonowski; Sture Hansson; Jörgen Berge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mysids; hydroacoustics; Baltic Sea; abundance; stable isotopes; specific dynamic action SDA ; diel vertical migration; partial migration; trophic interactions; physiology; benthic-pelagic coupling; protein:DNA; C:N ratio; genetic structure; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Mysid shrimps (Mysidacea, Crustacea) are efficient zooplanktivores in both marine and freshwater systems as well as lipid rich prey for many species of fish.  Although some efforts have been made to study the role of mysids in the Baltic Sea, very few studies have been carried out in recent time and there are still knowledge gaps regarding various aspects of mysid ecology.
