  1. 1. Institutional Capacity for Territorial Cohesion

    Author : Lisa van Well; Folke Snickars; Mats Johansson; Peter Ache; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Territorial cohesion has its legal basis in the Treaty of Lisbon and is one of the overarching goals in the 2007-2013 Cohesion Policy instruments. Still the definition of territorial cohesion can be characterized as a ‘moving target’ - each EU Member State and region conceptualizes the policy goal in as befits the specific regional challenges and opportunities of the territory. 2. 2. Pesticide use in rice farming and its impacts on climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam

    Author : Thanh Tam Nguyen; Håkan Berg; Michael Tedengren; Cong Van Nguyen; Joachim Sturve; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mekong Delta; Rice field; Climbing perch; Insecticide; Chlorpyrifos ethyl; Fenobucarb; Mixture; Sequential applications; AChE; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The intensification of agricultural production in the Mekong Delta has faced serious challenges with respect to increased use of agrochemicals and especially pesticides. The indiscriminate use of pesticide could potentially impact on the long-term food production, environmental and human health in the delta. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mammalian brain acetylcholinesterase : a study of its solubilization, purification, molecular state and interactions with cholinergic ligands including an endogenous modulator

    Author : Bertil Niklasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Affinity chromatography; caudate nucleus; acetylcholinesterase; tetracaine; décaméthonium; d-tubocurarine; edrophonium; fluoride ion; hysteric properties; endogenous ligands to AChE;

    Abstract : Membrane bound AChE from calf brain caudate nucleus was solubilized by use of ion-free media in presence of 10~ M EDTA and 10“5M tetracaine. The irreversible release of AChE was more effectively inhibited by divalent ions compared to monovalent ions added to the medium. READ MORE

  4. 4. Selective inhibition of acetylcholinesterase 1 from disease-transmitting mosquitoes : design and development of new insecticides for vector control

    Author : Cecilia Engdahl; Anna Linusson; Fredrik Ekström; Zoran Radić; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acetylcholinesterase; non-covalent inhibitor; vector control; insecticide; mosquito; vector-borne disease; high throughput screening; rational design; biokemi; Biochemistry; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics;

    Abstract : Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is an essential enzyme with an evolutionary conserved function: to terminate nerve signaling by rapid hydrolysis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. AChE is an important target for insecticides. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring non-covalent interactions between drug-like molecules and the protein acetylcholinesterase

    Author : Lotta Berg; Anna Linusson; Fredrik Ekström; Joel L. Sussman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acetylcholinesterase; drug discovery; density functional theory; hydrogen bond; nerve-agent antidote; non-covalent interaction; protein-ligand complex; structure-based design; thermodynamics; X-ray crystallography; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics;

    Abstract : The majority of drugs are small organic molecules, so-called ligands, that influence biochemical processes by interacting with proteins. The understanding of how and why they interact and form complexes is therefore a key component for elucidating the mechanism of action of drugs. READ MORE
