  1. 1. The epidemiology of risk factors and short- and long-term outcome in the Swedish intensive care cohort

    Author : Björn Ahlström; Miklós Lipcsey; Ing-Marie Larsson; Gunnar Strandberg; Markus Skrifvars; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care; Intensive care unit; Sepsis; Covid-19; Epidemiology; Dementia; Mortality; Causes of death; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : The sepsis syndrome is present in ¼ to ⅓ of patients in intensive care units (ICUs) worldwide. The short-term prognosis is grim, with a 30-day mortality of 30–35%; however, the long- term outcomes are now being explored, as multi-professional follow-up after ICU care is increasingly being implemented. 2. 2. Paediatric intensive care in Sweden : i mechanical ventilation and central haemodynamics : ii outcome of paediatric intensive care with special reference to respiratory failure

    Author : Ninna Gullberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The ABC of acute care is to maintain Airway, Breathing and Circulation or oxygen delivery, which depends on the product of cardiac output (CO) and oxygenation. Thus knowledge of how different modes of mechanical ventilation affect central haemodynamics is essential. READ MORE

  3. 3. Acute lung injury : incidence and predictors of outcome with special reference to inhaled nitric oxide

    Author : Owe Luhr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Abstract : This work started out as a critical examination of the initial clinical experiences with inhalation of nitric oxide (INO) to patients with acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in Scandinavia 1991-1994. During this examination, we found that epidemiological data and prognostic factors were lacking in Scandinavia for these patient groups, making it difficult to evaluate new therapies. READ MORE
