1. Control of human papillomavirus type 1 late mRNA stability and translation by an AU-rich RNA element
Abstract : Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs) infect the epithelial tissues in humans and infection with certain high-risk types is associated with cancer. The expressionof the HPV late capsid genes is dependent on cell differentiation. This may be one reason for the lack of HPV replication in vitro. READ MORE

2. Role of the 3'UTR in translation and stability of HCV and HPV mRNAs
Abstract : Virus mRNAs can be divided into functional regions. The focus of this thesis will be to investigate the function of one of these regions, the 3’ untranslated region (UTR). The 3’UTR of HCV contains a U-rich element and the late 3’UTR of HPV-1 contains an AU-rich element. READ MORE

3. Nucleic Acids as Drug Targets -Interactions of Platinum Complexes, Polyamines, and siRNA with DNA and RNA Models
Abstract : Drugs targeting nucleic acids were studied in DNA and RNA model systems. The effects were investigated with respect to structural and thermodynamic influence, kinetics, and biological function. The drugs employed in this thesis were anticancer active platinum(II) complexes, polyamine derivatives, and siRNA. READ MORE

4. Posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression in retroviruses and human papillomaviruses
Abstract : Human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1) is the prototype of complex retroviruses, whereas human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are nonenveloped, cricular double-stranded DNA viruses. The HIV-1 Rev protein is a posttranscriptional regulator, which acts on its target RNA sequence termed the Rev-responsive element (RRE) to facilitate nuclear export of unspliced and partially spliced HIV-1 mRNAs, and to improve their stability and translatability. 5. MicroRNA-Mediated Migration of Colon Cancer Cells
Abstract : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common cancer in women and third most common cancer in men worldwide. The cause of the majority of death related to CRC is believed to be the migration of cancer cells to distant organs which is known as cancer metastasis. READ MORE
