  1. 1. CT Guided Ablation of T1 Renal Tumors

    Author : Vanessa Acosta Ruiz; Anders Magnusson; Mikael Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Renal tumor; Ablation; Radiofrequency ablation; Microwave ablation; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : The widespread use of medical imaging contributes to the increased detection of incidentally detected small renal tumors, a majority which are often indolent masses found in elderly patients with preexisting chronic kidney disease. In Sweden, partial nephrectomy with minimal invasive surgical approach is the current standard for removing these tumors, although another option is percutaneous image-guided tumor ablation that allows treatment of elderly patients with comorbidities for who surgery is a risk. 2. 2. Atrial fibrillation : endoscopic ablation and postoperative studies

    Author : Espen Fengsrud; Anders Ahlsson; Anders Englund; Alexander Wahba; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Bypass surgery; Cerebral ischemia; Follow-up studies; Survival; Anticoagulation; Ablation; Endoscopy; Randomized trial; Implantable loop recorder;

    Abstract : Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with an increased risk of stroke, heart failure and cardiovascular death. Initial treatment focuses on rhythm or rate control and anticoagulation after risk assessment. Catheter abla-tion (CA) is an option in highly symptomatic patients but is less effective in long-standing persistent AF(LSPAF). READ MORE

  3. 3. Epicardial ablation - a study evaluating thoracoscopic and surgical ablation procedures for patients with intractable atrial fibrillation

    Author : Johan Probst; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Rasmus Borgquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; epicardial ablation; surgical ablation; quality of life; pulmonary vein isolation; mitral valve surgery; concomitant surgery; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common condition, increasing in prevalence with age. Symptoms can be severe and quality of life is affected in patients suffering from AF. Treatment regimes aim to alleviate symptoms through rate or rhythm control. READ MORE

  4. 4. Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation : effects on rhythm, symptoms and health-related quality of life

    Author : Anna Björkenheim; Dritan Poçi; Deirdre Lane; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; catheter ablation; symptoms; quality of life;

    Abstract : Background: AF ablation is an increasingly used treatment in patients with AF to improve patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Atrioventricular junction ablation (AVJA) is a palliative treatment option in therapy refractory AF that improves PROs but renders the patient pacemaker dependent. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surgical ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation in different patient populations : A study of clinical outcomes including rhythm, quality of life, atrial function and safety

    Author : Louise Bagge; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; surgical ablation; quality of life; vagal denervation; ganglionated plexi; left atrial function; epicardial; minimally invasive; left atrial ablation; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) have markedly reduced quality of life (QoL) and catheter ablation has become a useful tool in the rhythm control therapy. However, because of the poor outcome for patients with persistent AF, new surgical ablation strategies for rhythm control are emerging. READ MORE
