  1. 1. Anthropogenic influence on climate through changes in aerosol emissions from air pollution and land use change

    Author : Juan Camilo Acosta Navarro; Ilona Riipinen; Annica M.L. Ekman; Hans-Christen Hansson; Risto Makkonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; Air quality; Land use; General circulation; Atmosphere-Ocean interactions; Aerosol climate effects; Earth system modelling; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Particulate matter suspended in air (i.e. aerosol particles) exerts a substantial influence on the climate of our planet and is responsible for causing severe public health problems in many regions across the globe. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of Volcanic Influence on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate

    Author : Johan Friberg; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lowermost stratosphere; volcanic aerosol; upper troposphere; sulfurous aerosol; carbonaceous aerosol; ion beam analysis; volcanism; indirect effect; radiative forcing; direct effect; Stratosphere; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Friberg;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the influence of volcanism on the compositions of the aerosols in the upper troposphere (UT) and lowermost stratosphere (LMS), and their direct and indirect impact on climate. Aerosol data were obtained by aircraft-borne sampling, using the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for the Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) platform, and laboratory-based ion beam analysis of aerosol samples at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis Facility (LIBAF). 3. 3. Process based Modelling of Chemical and Physical Aerosol Properties Relevant for Climate and Health

    Author : Pontus Roldin; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas phase chemistry; aerosol dynamics; aerosol particles; climate; kinetic multilayer model; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Roldin;

    Abstract : Atmospheric aerosol particles have substantial influence on climate and air quality. However, the anthropogenic influence on the atmospheric aerosol is still poorly known. This limits the understanding of past and future climate changes. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the use of aerosol optical properties and satellite-retrieved trace gases in regional air quality modelling

    Author : Emma Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model; Climate; Radiation; Satellite; Air Quality;

    Abstract : The effects of anthropogenic pollutants in the lower atmosphere (troposphere) have been shown, historically and scientifically, to have a deleterious effect on both plant and animal life. Pollutants such as near-surface ozone and soot (black carbon) are two notorious examples with clear anthropogenic sources. READ MORE

  5. 5. Primary Marine Aerosol : Validation of sea spray source functions using observations and transport modeling

    Author : Henrik Grythe; Johan Ström; Krejci Radovan; Bo Gustafsson; Lars Ahlm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine aerosol; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Sea spray aerosols (SSA) are an important part of the climate system through their effects on the global radiative budget, both directly as scatterers and absorbers of solar and terrestrial radiation, and indirectly as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) influencing cloud formation, lifetime and precipitation. In terms of their global mass, SSA is the largest source and has the largest uncertainty of all aerosols. READ MORE
