  1. 1. Mass Spectrometry of Biologically Active Small Molecules : Focusing on polyphenols, alkaloids and amino acids

    Author : Zdeněk Spáčil; Leopold L. Ilag; Frantisek Turecek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LC-MS; LDI; Mass spectrometry; HPLC; UHPLC; polyphenols; phenolic acids; BMAA; Separation methods; Separationsmetoder; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The foci of this dissertation are on advanced liquid chromatography (LC) separation and mass spectrometry (MS) techniques for the analysis of small bioactive molecules. In addition to discussing general aspects of such techniques the results from analyses of polyphenols (PPs), alkaloids and amino acids published in five appended studies are presented and discussed. 2. 2. Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Spirocyclization and Carbonylation Reactions : Ligands Targeting the Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor

    Author : Jens Lindman; Mats Larhed; Johan Gising; Christian Sköld; Alessandra Tolomelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Palladium catalysis; Mizoroki-Heck reaction; spiroindolines; spirooxindoles; amino acids; carbonylation; angiotensin II type 2 receptor; AT2R ligands; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : Palladium(0)-catalyzed chemistry represents one of the most important methods for the construction of carbon-carbon bonds, which are ubiquitous in organic compounds. The first part of this thesis describes the palladium(0)-catalyzed diastereoselective Mizoroki-Heck reaction of Vince lactam-derived precursors for the formation of spiroindolines (paper I) and spirooxindoles, which are scaffolds present in several natural products with interesting biological activity.     Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; superstructure; lyotropic liquid crystal; self-assembly; Calcium phosphate; bone-like apatite; amphiphilic peptide; nanocomposite; biomimetic mineralization;

    Abstract : The intercellular material in bone is a nanocomposite of aligned “hard” inorganics—calcium phosphate (CaP) platelets embedded in the long-range ordered “soft” organic collagen matrix. This elaborate structural arrangement redeems the weaknesses of the individual components (being soft protein or brittle mineral) and gives bone its excellent mechanical properties for the protection and support of our bodies. 4. 4. Amino acids with relevance to health, climate and the environment : Development of mass spectrometric methods

    Author : Javier Zurita; Leopold Ilag; Ulrika Nilsson; Margareta Törnqvist; Natalia Tretyakova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amino acids; LC MS; fixed-charge derivatization; BMAA; chiral separation; pheromones; arctic aerosols; serum albumin adducts; benzo[a]pyrene diol epoxides; high-resolution MS; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Amino acids play vital roles in health, either in their native form or chemically modified. Some studies have linked certain non-proteinogenic amino acids to neurodegenerative diseases, such as in the case of β-methylaminoalanine (BMAA). READ MORE

  5. 5. Conformations of amino acids characterized by theoretical spectroscopy

    Author : Hongbao Li; Yi Luo; Tanja van Mourik; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amino acids; spectroscopy; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : Amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins. The determinationof their structures plays an important role in correctly describing the functionsof the proteins. READ MORE
