  1. 1. Familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy : studies of genetic factors modifying the phenotype of the disease

    Author : Malin Olsson; Ole B Suhr; Lisbeth Tranebjærg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Familial amyloid polyneuropathy; Amyloidosis; Transthyretin; Allele Frequency; Mitochondria; parent-of-origin; MicroRNA; Single Nucleotide Polymorphism; 3 Untranslated Regions genetics; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; genetik; Genetics; klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Background. Familial Amyloidosis with Polyneuropathy (FAP) is an autosomal dominantly inherited systemic amyloid disease. The disease is caused by mutations in the transthyretin (TTR) gene, where close to 100 different amyloidogenic mutations have been identified. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cardiac function in hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis : an echocardiographic study

    Author : Sandra Arvidsson; Per Lindqvist; Eva Nylander; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloid; echocardiography; ECG; HCM; fibril type; strain; ATTR; cardiomyopathy; speckle tracking;

    Abstract : Background: Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) is a lethal disease in which misfolded transthyretin (TTR) proteins accumulate as insoluble aggregates in tissues throughout the body. A common mutation is the exchange of valine to methionine at place 30 (TTR V30M), a form endemically found in the northern parts of Sweden. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of Palladium-Promoted 11C/12C-Carbonylations and Radiosynthesis of Amyloid PET Ligands

    Author : Patrik Nordeman; Gunnar Antoni; Mats Larhed; Luke R Odell; Antony D Gee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Palladium; Carbonylation; Positron emission tomography; PET; Carbon-11; Fluor-18; Radiochemistry; Amyloidosis; Palladium; Karbonyleringar; Positronemissionstomografi; PET; Kol-11; Fluor-18; Radiokemi; Amyloidos; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : In the first part of this thesis, palladium(0)-catalyzed and -mediated carbonylations are discussed. Paper I describes a new method for the safe, efficient use of a solid carbon monoxide source in the synthesis of primary and secondary benzamides. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of in vivo prostate amyloidosis and autoimmune responses towards amyloid structures in neurodegeneration

    Author : Kiran Yanamandra; Ludmilla Morozova-Roche; Dina Raveh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amyloid; amyloidosis; immune reactivity; S100A8 A9; insulin; α-synuclein; Biochemistry; Biokemi; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : By using multidisciplinary analysis of CA inclusions in prostate glands of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, we have revealed that their major components are the amyloid forms of S100A8 and S100A9 proteins associated with numerous inflammatory conditions and types of cancer. We have demonstrated that material closely resembling CA can be produced from S100A8/A9 in vitro and shows the characters of amyloids. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular Aspects of Transthyretin Amyloid Disease

    Author : Karin Sörgjerd; Per Hammarström; Joel Buxbaum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloid; apoptosis; BiP; chaperone; misfolding; oligomer; transthyretin; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis was made to get a deeper understanding of how chaperones interact with unstable, aggregation prone, misfolded proteins involved in human disease. Over the last two decades, there has been much focus on misfolding diseases within the fields of biochemistry and molecular biotechnology research. READ MORE
