    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish När ett barn föds före graviditetsvecka 30 är andningsinsufficiens eller på engelska kallad respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) ett av de stora kliniska problemen som barnläkaren står inför. Redan på 1920-talet förstod man att det måste finnas ett ytspänningsnedsättande ämne i lungorna och på 1950-talet fann man att för tidigt födda (prematura) barn med RDS hade brist på detta ämne, surfaktant. 2. 2. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    University dissertation from Åke Mellström, Dept of Anaesthesiology, Malmö Univesity Hospital, S-205 02 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Åke Mellström; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Abstract : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. Abstract : Reperfusion injury after restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is often considered one of the predominant factors in determining neurological outcome in cardiac arrest. Therefore one of the main targets of experimental and clinical studies has been to mitigate this reperfusion injury. READ MORE

    Abstract : Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has become a useful tool in monitoring the heart in patients during open-heart surgery. This study was undertaken to evaluate whether it is feasible to use TEE to assess left ventricular myocardial viability in anesthetized patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
