  1. 1. Risk factors for development of neurocognitive disorders

    Author : Anna-Märta Gustavsson; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular risk factors; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; ß-amyloid; white matter hyperintensities; cerebral small vessel disease;

    Abstract : Vascular risk factors are believed to be involved in dementia development by increasing risk of the most common dementia types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia. The aim of this thesis was to study if risk factors affect key brain pathology directly, by using biomarkers for dementia in preclinical stages, and to assess previous findings in a large population-based setting. 2. 2. Effects of invasin and YopH of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis on host cell signaling

    Author : Anna Gustavsson; Maria Fällman; Arnoud Sonnenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; β1-integrin; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Invasin; YopH; Cell-Matrix Adhesion; Filopodia; Cell Spreading; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Integrins are a large family of membrane-spanning heterodimeric (αβ) receptors that bind to ligands on other cells or to extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. These receptors mediate bidirectional signaling over the cell membrane to induce signaling cascades mediating functions as cell adhesion, spreading and migration. READ MORE

  3. 3. Glycolytic oscillations in individual yeast cells

    Author : Anna-Karin Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical manipulation; Microfluidics; Fluorescence microscopy; Single cell analysis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Glycolysis; Oscillations; NADH; Heterogeneity; Synchronization; Robustness; Universality;

    Abstract : Oscillations in the concentration of yeast glycolytic intermediates have been intensively studied since the 1950s, but these studies have so far been limited to observations of average oscillatory behavior in synchronized cultures. Hence, it has remained unknown whether the onset of oscillations is a collective property of the population which requires a high cell density, or if individual cells can oscillate also in isolation. 4. 4. Single Cell Studies of Glycolytic Oscillations Using Microfluidics and Optical Tweezers

    Author : Anna-Karin Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical manipulation; microfluidics; fluorescence microscopy; single cell imaging; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; glycolysis; oscillations; NADH;

    Abstract : The complex set of reactions in metabolism has been extensively studied in populations with millions of cells, but much information can still be gained by studying the heterogeneous metabolic behaviour in individual cells. The first part of energy metabolism is called glycolysis and is very similar in mammalian cells, such as human cells, and in yeast cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cobalt and Nickel Bioavailability for Biogas Formation

    Author : Jenny Gustavsson; Bo Svensson; Anna Karlsson; Piet N.L. Lens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Biogas production; bioavailability; cobalt; nickel; sequential extraction; S XANES; 454-pyrosequencing.; Biogasproduktion; biotillgänglighet; kobolt; nickel; sekventiell extraktion; S XANES; 454-pyrosekvensering;

    Abstract : Supplementation of trace metals such as Co and Ni may improve anaerobic digestion of organic material for biogas formation. Which trace metals that are needed and the quantity to apply are, at least partly, related to metal speciation and bioavailability. READ MORE
