  1. 1. Adaptive blind deconvolution using third-order moments : exploiting asymmetry

    Author : Patrik Pääjärvi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the use of third-order statistics in adaptive blind deconvolution of asymmetric impulsive signals. Traditional methods are typically based on fourthorder moments, which can discriminate signals with heavy-tailed probability functions (i.e. `spiky' signals) from corresponding filtered versions. 2. 2. Power Asymmetry Revisited : Reconciling EU Foreign Policy Goals and Enlargement Conditionality in the Western Balkans

    Author : Jessica Giandomenico; Li Bennich-Björkman; Anna Jarstad; Andreas Bågenholm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; EU enlargement; EU foreign policy; EU conditionality; power asymmetry; historical institutionalism; path dependence; institutional layering; Western Balkans; Macedonia; elections; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Abstract : The EU is assumed to have a strong top-down transformative power over the states applying for membership. This leverage is based on a power asymmetry where the applicant states want to join the EU more than the EU wants to enlarge, and that the applicant states gain more than the member states from the enlargement. 3. 3. Essays on Consumption : - Aggregation, Asymmetry and Asset Distributions

    Author : Mårten Bjellerup; Jan Ekberg; Katarina Juselius; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Aggregate consumption; Aggregation; Asymmetry; Wealth distribution; Income distribution; Concavity; Permanent Income Hypothesis; Buffer stock saving; Precautionary saving; consumption; saving; Euler equation; error correction; skew-t distribution; gamma distribution; dispersion; non-linear model; durable goods; nondurable goods; household level data; consumption function; marginal propensity to consume; current resources; consumption expenditure; life-cycle model; univariate test; multivariate test; Sweden; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : The dissertation consists of four self-contained essays on consumption. Essays 1 and 2 consider different measures of aggregate consumption, and Essays 3 and 4 consider how the distributions of income and wealth affect consumption from a macro and micro perspective, respectively. 4. 4. Asymmetry and the moderating effects of formal institutional distance on the relationship between cultural distance and performance of foreign subsidiaries in Latin America

    Author : Henrique Correa da Cunha; Svante Andersson; Mohamed Amal; Mikael Hilmersson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Asymmetry; institutional distance; cultural distance; subsidiary; performance; Latin America;

    Abstract : This study investigates how Cultural and Formal Institutional distances and their interaction affect the performance of multinational foreign subsidiaries in Latin America. It is shown that using Kogut and Singh (1988) index or attributing the positive and negative signals to distances in opposite directions fail to capture asymmetric effects as it assumes either symmetry or opposing symmetry. 5. 5. Variations in Functional Lateralization

    Author : Peter E Wendt; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; posterior association cortex; prefrontal; DLPFC; regional cerebral blood flow; normal subjects; lateralization; asymmetry; performance; creativity; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; cognitive; ethanol; activation; visual stimulation; functional; verbal; divergent; spatial; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to study asymmetric activation of the neocortex in normal subjects, using the rCBF technique and different cognitive tasks. The aim was also to study individual and group variations of asymmetric activation, as well as factors pertaining to these variations. The thesis is based on four investigations. READ MORE
