1. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 2. Theoretical Atomic Spectroscopy of Earthbound and Stellar Plasma
Abstract : Motivated by spectroscopic analysis of astrophysical and laboratory plasma, this thesis concerns the fundamental structure and spectral properties of atoms and their ions. The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method is used to predict the emission or absorption of radiation, by atomic systems in general, and of heavy and highly charged ions in particular. 3. Development of Experimental Methods, Data Analysis and Standards in Atomic Spectroscopy
Abstract : The focus of this work is on the experimental techniques and data analysis in atomic spectroscopy. Improved methods for the analysis of spectra and the determination of level energies are presented. Most of these are based on a rigorous statistical treatment of the spectroscopic data. READ MORE

4. Atomic Influences in Stellar Spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis is a description of how knowledge of atomic physics can be used in a stellar spectrum analysis. Stellar investigations are spectroscopically performed based on wavelengths, intensities and spectral line structure. READ MORE

5. Diode laser spectroscopy in extended wavelength ranges
Abstract : Diode laser spectroscopy performed in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions is presented. The accessible wavelength range for visible and near-infrared diode lasers is extended by the use of sum- and difference-frequency generation. READ MORE
