  1. 1. Autonomic nervous system regulation in chronic neck-shoulder pain : Relations to physical activity and perceived stress

    Author : David Hallman; Eugene Lyskov; Bengt Arnetz; Ewa Wigaeus Tornqvist; Allan Toomingas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autonomic imbalance; Daily physical activity; Trapezius myalgia; Treatment; Parasympathetic; Sympathetic;

    Abstract : Neck-shoulder pain (NSP) is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal disorder with unclear causes, and effective prevention and treatment require a further understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Aberrant autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulation is a hypothesized causal element in the development and maintenance of chronic muscle pain. READ MORE

  2. 2. Apnea, small for date and autonomic imbalance : risk factors in relation to SIDS

    Author : Ann Edner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Sudden Infant Death Syndrome SIDS ; Apparent Life Threatening Event ALTE ; Small for Gestational Age SGA ; Tilt test; Heart Rate Variability HR V ;

    Abstract : SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is defined as an infant who has died suddenly and its cause "remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history". An infant who during sleep has been found apneic, pale or cyanotic and limp, and has required either vigorous stimulation or cardiopulmonary resuscitation is defined to have been affected of an Apparent Life Threatening Event (ALTE). 3. 3. Autonomic Management of Partitioners for SAMR Grid Hierarchies

    Author : Henrik Johansson; Jarmo Rantakokko; Michael Thuné; Johan Steensland; Manish Parashar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap; Scientific Computing;

    Abstract : Parallel structured adaptive mesh refinement methods decrease the execution time and memory usage of partial differential equation solvers by adaptively assigning computational resources to regions with large solution errors. These methods result in a dynamic grid hierarchy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Prognostic Factors in First-Episode Schizophrenia : Five-year Outcome of Symptoms, Function and Obesity

    Author : Robert Bodén; Johan Sundström; Leif Lindström; Lena Flyckt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; First-episode; psychosis; schizophrenia; community mental health services; remission; functional outcome; biochemistry; obesity; weight-gain; prediction; autonomic balance; electrocardiography; Psychiatry; Psykiatri; Psychiatry; Psykiatri;

    Abstract : Our knowledge of prognostic factors and optimal treatment organisation in schizophrenia is incomplete. The disparity of outcome measures used has been a major obstacle for research. Increasing evidence has shown that schizophrenia is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality, development of obesity and autonomic nervous system imbalance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Heart Rate Variability in Stress-related Fatigue, Adolescent Anxiety and Depression and its Connection to Lifestyle

    Author : Erik Olsson; Lennart Melin; Ulf Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : heart rate variability; autonomic nervous system; vagal tone; allostatic load; stress; fatigue; anxiety; depression; continuous performance; attention; cardiovascular risk; lifestyle; physical activity;

    Abstract : Heart rate varies constantly as a consequence of activity in the sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic nervous systems (SNS and PNS). In short-term recordings, heart rate variability (HRV) is mostly related to the inhibitory activity of the vagal nerves, which are part of the PNS. READ MORE
