  1. 1. Fatality of coronary events : epidemiological studies of potential determinants

    Author : Hedley Quintana; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Although there has been a large number of improvements in prevention and care, coronary heart disease (CHD) was one of the main causes of death in 2010 around the world. The majority of CHD deaths are due to myocardial infarction (MI) and occur out-of-hospital. READ MORE

  2. 2. The roads in-between : causeways and polyagentive networks at Ichmul and Yo'okop, Cochuah Region, Mexico

    Author : Johan Normark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; agency; architecture; becoming; Bergson; causeway; Cochuah; culture critique; Deleuze; difference; duration; event horizon; evolution; humanocentrism; Ichmul; ideology; in-between; index; materialtiy; Maya; Mexico; multiplicity; neo-materialism; network; polyagency; polyagent; posthumanism; practice; rhizome; road; sakbe; settlement archaeology; technoscience; temporality; Terminal Classic; virutality; Yo okop;

    Abstract : This dissertation has two aims: (1) To characterize and abandon the humanocentric archaeology that relies upon quasi-objects and to develop the polyagentive archaeology that relies upon actualizations of the virtual. (2) To exemplify the latter approach by studying how causeways (sakbeob) in the Maya area relate to temporality and materialtiy at, and around, the two neighbouring sites of Ichmul and Yo'okop in the Cochuah region of southeast Yucatan and west-central Quintana Roo in Mexico. 3. 3. Lifestyle and Genome Evolution in Vector-Borne Bacteria : A Comparison of Three Bartonella Species

    Author : Anna Carolin Frank; Siv Andersson; Stewart Cole; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bartonella; evolution; host-restriction; vector-borne; horizontal gene transfer; genome reduction; alpha-proteobacteria; Type-IV secretion; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Bacterial genomes provide records of the molecular processes associated with emergence and evolution of different bacterial lifestyles. This thesis is based on whole-genome comparisons within the genus Bartonella, an excellent model system for studies of host- and vector-specificity and infection outcome in animal-associated bacteria. 4. 4. Studies of Genome Diversity in Bartonella Populations : A journey through cats, mice, men and lice

    Author : Hillevi Lina Lindroos; Siv G. E. Andersson; Richard Birtles; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; Bartonella; genome content; genome rearrangement; gene expression; phage; microarray; PFGE; MLST; Biologi;

    Abstract : Bacteria of the genus Bartonella inhabit the red blood cells of many mammals, including humans, and are transmitted by blood-sucking arthropod vectors. Different species of Bartonella are associated with different mammalian host species, to which they have adapted and normally do not cause any symptoms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bartonella Infections in Sweden: : Clinical Investigations and Molecular Epidemiology

    Author : Christian Ehrenborg; Martin Holmberg; Göran Friman; Eva Hjelm; Gunnar Sandström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Communicable diseases; Bartonella; clinical studies; molecular epidemiology; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Characteristically, in infections that are caused by the zoonotic pathogen Bartonella naturally infected reservoir hosts are asymptomatic, where infected incidental, non-natural, hosts develop symptomatic disease. Cat-scratch disease (CSD) is a well known example. READ MORE
