  1. 1. Parameters affecting the functionality of additives in lubricated contacts : effect of base oil polarity

    Author : Aldara Naveira Suarez; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Traditionally rolling contact fatigue observed in bearing field applications was subsurface initiated. However, despite the improvement of steel properties, some factors such as downsizing in bearing design, extreme loading of the bearings as well as demanding application conditions (start up-stop cycles) have led to an increase on the cases of surface damage related to surface initiated fatigue, that comes basically from surface distress. 2. 2. Adsorption of dissolved organic matter in aquatic ecosystems : Effects on composition and reactivity

    Author : Marloes M. Groeneveld; Lars Tranvik; Dolly Kothawala; Suzanne Tank; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : dissolved organic matter; DOM; carbon; aquatic; adsorption; mineral particles; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Abstract : Inland waters receive organic matter from terrestrial ecosystems and in situ production. In transit from land to the ocean, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) may be mineralised to inorganic forms (CO2 and CH4) by microbial degradation and photodegradation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Comparative Genomics in Birds

    Author : Erik Axelsson; Hans Ellegren; Martin Lercher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular genetics; Birds; molecular evolution; macrochromosomes; microchromosomes; mutation rate; substitution rate; base composition; positive selection; genetic drift; population size; Genetik;

    Abstract : To shed light on forces that shape the molecular evolution of bird genomes, and in turn avian adaptations, comparative analyses of avian DNA sequences are important. Moreover, contrasting findings in birds to those of other organisms will lend a clearer view on general aspects of molecular evolution. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects on wettability and surface composition of modified wood

    Author : Lars-Elof Bryne; Ove Söderström; Charles R. Frihart; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wettability; contact angle; work of adhesion; Lewis acid-base; modified wood; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Wood is often combined with other materials such as thermoplastics, adhesives and coatings. In general, combinations of wood and polymers especially in outdoor exposure have poor long-term durability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Portland Cement Clinker - Composition and Hydration

    Author : Anna Emanuelson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; mineralisation; hydration; polymorphism; substitutions; ferrite; aluminate; belite; alite; Portland cement clinker; phase analysis; Oorganisk kemi; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Abstract : The crystal structures of the main Portland cement clinker phases are reviewed and two anion centered models of Ca3SiO5 and Ca2SiO4 are presented. The effects of minor elements on the clinkering process, and on the qualitative and quantitative phase compositions of Portland cement clinker are discussed. READ MORE
