1. Parameters affecting the functionality of additives in lubricated contacts : effect of base oil polarity
Abstract : Traditionally rolling contact fatigue observed in bearing field applications was subsurface initiated. However, despite the improvement of steel properties, some factors such as downsizing in bearing design, extreme loading of the bearings as well as demanding application conditions (start up-stop cycles) have led to an increase on the cases of surface damage related to surface initiated fatigue, that comes basically from surface distress. 2. Adsorption of dissolved organic matter in aquatic ecosystems : Effects on composition and reactivity
Abstract : Inland waters receive organic matter from terrestrial ecosystems and in situ production. In transit from land to the ocean, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) may be mineralised to inorganic forms (CO2 and CH4) by microbial degradation and photodegradation. READ MORE

3. Comparative Genomics in Birds
Abstract : To shed light on forces that shape the molecular evolution of bird genomes, and in turn avian adaptations, comparative analyses of avian DNA sequences are important. Moreover, contrasting findings in birds to those of other organisms will lend a clearer view on general aspects of molecular evolution. READ MORE

4. Aspects on wettability and surface composition of modified wood
Abstract : Wood is often combined with other materials such as thermoplastics, adhesives and coatings. In general, combinations of wood and polymers especially in outdoor exposure have poor long-term durability. READ MORE

5. Portland Cement Clinker - Composition and Hydration
Abstract : The crystal structures of the main Portland cement clinker phases are reviewed and two anion centered models of Ca3SiO5 and Ca2SiO4 are presented. The effects of minor elements on the clinkering process, and on the qualitative and quantitative phase compositions of Portland cement clinker are discussed. READ MORE
