1. Basin-scale change in water availability and water quality under intensified irrigated agriculture
Abstract : Changes in land use and water use can greatly impact the cycling of water and water-borne substances. Increased redistribution of river water to irrigated fields can cause enhanced evapotranspiration and decreased river discharge. READ MORE

2. Fluvial transport and risk of mercury in a gold mining area
Abstract : My thesis is part of an overall environmental program evaluating the environmental and human health stress in areas of Nicaragua affected by anthropogenic emission of metals and man-made organic substances. I examine the fluvial transport of mercury contextually associated with the extent of the contamination and the observed human and environmental stress in a gold mining area. READ MORE

3. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Abstract : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. READ MORE

4. Dynamics of nutrient mass transport : A river basin evaluation
Abstract : Human settlements and activities can dramatically change and accelerate the rate of eutrophication in a river basin. An undesirable increase in the input of nutrients, e.g. phosphorus and nitrogen, to a surface water causes adverse water quality conditions. READ MORE

5. Sediment transport from source to sink in the Lake Baikal basin : Impacts of hydroclimatic change and mining
Abstract : Different magnitude, intensity and timing of precipitation can impact runoff, hillslope erosion and transport of sediment along river channels. Human activities, such as dam construction and surface mining can also considerably influence transport of sediment and sediment-bound contaminants. READ MORE
