  1. 1. Processes of Magma-crust Interaction : Insights from Geochemistry and Experimental Petrology

    Author : Frances M Deegan; Valentin R Troll; Luigi Dallai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Canary Island magmatism; HP-HT experimental petrology; magma-crust interaction; Merapi volcano; radiogenic isotopes Sr; Nd; Pb ; stable isotopes O; B .; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : This work focuses on crustal interaction in magmatic systems, drawing on experimental petrology and elemental and isotope geochemistry. Various magma-chamber processes such as magma-mixing, fractional crystallisation and magma-crust interaction are explored throughout the papers comprising the thesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Diagenesis and Reservoir-Quality Evolution of Paralic, Shallow Marine and Fluvio-lacustrine Deposits : Links to Depositional Facies and Sequence Stratigraphy

    Author : Osama Ahmed Hlal; Sadoon Morad; Hans Annersten; J. Marcelo Ketzer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sandstone; Diagenesis; paralic; shallow marine and fluvio-lacustrine; reservoir quality; sequence stratigraphy; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi;

    Abstract : Linking diagenesis to depositional facies and sequence stratigraphy enables better prediction of spatial and temporal distribution of diagenetic alterations, and thus of evolution of reservoir quality in sandstones. This thesis demonstrates that employing this approach is possible because depositional facies and sequence stratigraphy can provide useful information on parameters controlling the near-surface diagenesis, such as changes in: (i) pore-water chemistry, (ii) residence time of sediments under certain geochemical conditions, (iii) detrital composition and proportion of extra- and intra-basinal grains, and (iv) types and amounts of organic matter. 3. 3. Geological Evolution of the Supracrustal Palaeoproterozoic Hamrånge Group: A Svecofennian Case Study

    Author : Erik Ogenhall; Håkan Sjöström; Hans Annersten; Markku Väisänen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hamrånge; Ljusdal; Hagsta Gneiss Zone; geochemistry; geochronology; thermobarometry; metamorphism; fold-thrust belt.; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis utilizes several geological methods to investigate the origin and evolution of the supracrustal rocks in the Palaeoproterozoic Hamrånge Group (HG) in the south-central Swedish Svecofennian. The first paper is based on whole-rock geochemistry to show the plate tectonic setting of volcanic rocks within the HG. READ MORE

  4. 4. Magma-Crust Interaction at Subduction Zone Volcanoes

    Author : Ester M. Jolis; Valentin R Troll; Silvio Mollo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma-crust interaction; stable isotopes O-C ; radiogenic isotopes Sr-Nd-Pb ; calc-silicate xenoliths; HP-HT experimental petrology; crustal volatiles; Vesuvius; Merapi; Kelut; the Sunda arc; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : The focus of this work is magma-crust interaction processes and associated crustal volatile release in subduction zone volcanoes, drawing on rock, mineral, and gas geochemistry as well as experimental petrology. Understanding the multitude of differentiation processes that modify an original magma during ascent to the surface is vital to unravel the contributions of the various sources that contribute to the final magmas erupted at volcanoes. 5. 5. Stratigraphy and Geochemistry of the Palaeoproterozoic Dannemora inlier, north-eastern Bergslagen region, central Sweden

    Author : Peter Dahlin; Karin Högdahl; Olav Eklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dannemora; Bergslagen region; volcaniclastic rocks; sedimentology; metasomatic alteration; lithogeochemistry; reflection seismic; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : The Palaeoproterozoic Dannemora inlier is situated in the north-eastern Bergslagen region. The inlier consists of primary and reworked volcanic deposits, stromatolitic limestone and skarn that have been subjected to upper greenschist facies metamorphism. READ MORE
