  1. 1. Bile Acid Induced Diarrhoea Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Antal Bajor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Diarrhoea; bile acid transport; bile acid synthesis; 75SeHCAT reproducibility; C4; budesonide; collagenous colitis; in vitro; malabsorption; ASBT; intestinal secretion; potential difference; manometry;

    Abstract : A common cause for referral to gastroenterologists is chronic watery diarrhoea. Approximately 40% of these patients have idiopathic bile acid malabsorption (BAM) ? a condition with unknown aetiology. The 75SeHCAT test, which correlates inversely with faecal excretion and hepatic synthesis of bile acids, is used to diagnose BAM. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on the hormonal regulation of bile acid synthesis

    Author : Thomas Lundåsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The maintenance of a normal turnover of cholesterol is of vital importance, and disturbances of cholesterol metabolism may result in several important disease conditions. The major route for the elimination of cholesterol from the body is by hepatic secretion of cholesterol and bile acids (BAs) into the bile for subsequent fecal excretion. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bile acid metabolism in humans : regulation of synthesis and circadian rhythms

    Author : Amani Al-Khaifi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Interfering with bile acids (BAs) signaling within the enterohepatic circulation (EHC) has recently emerged as an important way of controlling human metabolic homeostasis. This is highly relevant to a number of frequent disease entities such as dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes, gallstone disease and BA-induced diarrhea. 4. 4. Use of primary human hepatocytes for the elucidation of bile acid synthesis

    Author : Ewa C S Ellis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the present investigation we cultured primary human hepatocytes on matrigel under serum-free conditions and studied bile acid formation. The following observations were made: · The major steroid products excreted from primary human hepatocytes into the culture medium were cholic acid, CA (70%) and chenodeoxycholic acid, CDCA (25%) conjugated with glycine or taurine. 5. 5. Studies on the mechanism of regulation of bile acid synthesis in humans with some aspects on genetic factors

    Author : Anna Abrahamsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Bile acid synthesis; CYP7A1; CYP8B1; nuclear factors; primary human hepatocytes; regulation; polymorphism;

    Abstract : In the present investigation we studied human bile acid synthesis and its regulation both in vivo and in vitro and also evaluated a possible influence of polymorphisms in the CYP7A1 and CYP8B1 genes on bile acid synthesis in vivo. The following observations were made: · Primary human hepatocytes cultured on matrigel under serum-free conditions produced bile acids consistent with the pattern in vivo, i. READ MORE
