  1. 6. Evolution and viral mimicry of short linear motif-mediated interactions

    Author : Filip Mihalič; Per Jemth; Leo James; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phage display; protein-protein interactions; large-scale discovery; short linear motifs; viral mimcry; viral hijacking; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteins are one of the most fundamental building blocks of life and their interactions regulate every cellular process. Historically they have been conceptualized as predominantly folded entities with well-defined secondary and tertiary structures. READ MORE

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistances are one of the biggest threats to global health and if we don’t change our behavior and way of using antibiotics we will end up in a ‘post-antibiotic era’, in which common infections and minor injuries can once kill again and up to 10 million deaths per year may occur by 2050. Therefore, there is a high need for new anti-bacterial drugs, especially of alternatives to existing antibiotics with already described resistances. READ MORE

    Abstract : Today, the demand for speed in drug discovery is constantly increasing, particularly in the iterative processes of hit validation and expansion and lead optimization. Irradiation with microwaves (MWs) has been applied in the area of organic synthesis to accelerate chemical reactions and to facilitate the generation of new chemical entities since 1986. READ MORE

  4. 9. DNA precursor biosynthesis-allosteric regulation and medical applications

    Author : Reza Rofougaran; Anders Hofer; Thomas Borén; Staffan Eriksson; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) is a key enzyme for de novo dNTP biosynthesis. We have studied nucleotide-dependent oligomerization of the allosterically regulated mammalian RNR using a mass spectrometry–related technique called Gas-phase Electrophoretic Mobility Macromolecule Analysis (GEMMA). Abstract : Biochemistry is part of life science: a fast developing multidisciplinary area. The overall aims of this thesis and the work underlying it were to find ways in which to develop competence in biochemistry at university level and to assess complex learning. A particular interest was the development of experimental work as a means to promote learning. READ MORE
