  1. 1. Mesoporous Implants for Localized Controlled Drug Delivery

    Author : Johan Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; release kinetics; mesoporous titania; biomineralization; drug delivery; Biomedical implants; osseointegration; osteoporosis drugs; nanotopography; stem cells homing;

    Abstract : The use of bone-anchored implants is today a routine treatment for patients with normal regenerative capacity. However, there is an ongoing development within implant research to improve the osseointegration of implants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Silicon nitride based coatings for biomedical implants

    Author : Charlotte Skjöldebrand; Cecilia Persson; Håkan Engqvist; Julia Shelton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; silicon nitride; ceramic coating; deposition; PVD; dissolution; biocompatibility;

    Abstract : Silicon nitride-based coatings have been proposed as a means to reduce the release of metal ions and debris from metallic implants. This reduction in combination with the biocompatible debris from silicon nitride could result in a less adverse immune response. READ MORE

  3. 3. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification

    Author : Niccoló Peruzzi; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; x-ray imaging; neutron imaging; μCT; synchrotron radiation; x-ray phase-contrast; nanoholotomography; x-ray elemental mapping; biomedical applications; virtual histology; biodegradable implants; Mg-alloys; enteric nervous system; peripheral neuropathy; gastroenteric dysmotility; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Peruzzi;

    Abstract : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them.The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 4. 4. Wireless Communication with Medical Implants: Antennas and Propagation

    Author : Anders J Johansson; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; medical implant communication; electromagnetic propagation; biomedical telemetry; antennas in matter; MICS; Electronics; Elektronik;

    Abstract : With the increased sophistication of medical implants, there is a growing need for flexible high-speed communication with the implant from outside the body. Today the communication is done by an inductive link between the implant and an external coil at a low carrier frequency. READ MORE

  5. 5. Silicon neural interfaces -Design and biomedical aspects-

    Author : Lars Wallman; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Elektronik och elektroteknik; Electronics and Electrical technology; pn-etch stop; biocompatibility; neural recordings; porous silicon; silicon; neural interface; sieve electrode; General biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ;

    Abstract : This thesis covers the development of a silicon neural interface, with focus on silicon sieve electrode fabrication, design, nerve regeneration, signal recording and biocompatibility. A study of how the via hole size and transparency of the perforated sieve membrane influences the nerve regeneration is presented together with a study on soft tissue responses to planar and porous silicon.
