1. Material Constraints on Technology Evolution: The Case of Scarce Metals and Emerging Energy Technologies
Abstract : A radical transformation of the energy system in the 21st century will require a large-scale diffusion of a range of new energy technologies. Thin-film solar photovoltaics (PV) and battery-electric vehicles have been suggested as possible major components of a more sustainable energy system. READ MORE

3. Contributions to Kernel Equating
Abstract : The statistical practice of equating is needed when scores on different versions of the same standardized test are to be compared. This thesis constitutes four contributions to the observed-score equating framework kernel equating. READ MORE

4. Reverse genetic studies of Enterovirus replication
Abstract : Enteroviruses belong to the Picornaviridae family and are small icosahedral viruses with RNA genomes of positive polarity, containing a single open reading frame. They mostly cause mild or asymptomatic infections, but also a wide array of diseases including: poliomyelitis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis, aseptic meningitis, myocarditis, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, hepatitis and respiratory diseases, ranging from severe infections to the common cold. 5. Mitochondrial and Eukaryotic Origins : A Phylogenetic Perspective
Abstract : Mitochondria are eukaryotic cellular organelles responsible for power-generation, believed to have come into existence by an endo-symbiontic event where a bacterial cell was incorporated by an un-specified "proto-eukaryote". Phylogenetic analysis have shown that the mitochondrial ancestor was most related to present-day alpha-proteobacteria, although the exact nature of the mitochondrial progenitor remains disputed.
