  1. 1. Quantitative Bioanalysis : Liquid separations coupled to targeted mass spectrometric measurements of bioactive compounds

    Author : Björn Arvidsson; Jonas Bergquist; Magnus Wetterhall; Gérard Hopfgartner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Method development; Enhanced microdialysis; Column switching; Liquid chromatography; Capillary electrophoresis; Electrospray ionization; Mass spectrometry; Triple quadrupole; Time-of-flight; Quantitation; Validation; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Performing quantitative analysis of targeted bioactive compounds in biological samples, such as blood plasma, cerebrospinal fluid or extracts from pig liver, put high demands on the ruggedness of the method acquiring the results. In addition to the complexity of the sample matrix, the bioactive compounds targeted for analysis usually have low levels of natural abundance, further increasing the demand on the analytical method sensitivity. 2. 2. Technical Aspects of Laparoscopic Liver Resection. An Experimental Study

    Author : Kristinn Eiriksson; Dag Arvidsson; Sten Rubertsson; Bjørn Edwin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gas embolism; laparoscopy; liver resection; pneumoperitoneum; carbon dioxide; argon; bleeding; stapling device;

    Abstract : Various techniques are used to transect the liver. With increase in laparoscopic liver resections (LLR), it is of even more interest to develop surgical techniques to minimize bleeding and the risk for gas embolism during transection. Instrument like argon enhanced coagulator provides good hemostasis but increases the danger of gas embolism. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ecology of freshwater mussels in disturbed environments

    Author : Martin Österling; Larry Greenberg; Björn Arvidsson; David Strayer; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Unionoida; Margaritifera margaritifera; Dreissena; Salmo trutta; habitat degradation; turbidity; sedimentation; recruitment; conservation.; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The number of species extinctions is increasing at an alarming rate. Long-lived freshwater mussels of the order Unionoida, which include a parasitic stage on a host fish, are highly threatened. Habitat degradation by turbidity and sedimentation is thought to be one major reason for their decline. READ MORE
