  1. 1. Separation Methods in Membrane Proteomics -Integration of Aqueous Two-Phase Partitioning for Enrichment and Pre-Fractionation

    Author : Henrik Everberg; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane proteins; Proteins; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Aqueous two-phase partitioning; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Proteomics;

    Abstract : The study of the protein complement of a genome is called proteomics. Proteomics can be defined as identification, quantification and characterization of a total set of proteins expressed at different time-points or under different cellular states to provide global information about biological processes. 2. 2. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS

    Author : Houman Ghasriani; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Physical chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; CRISP-3; NMR; 3D-structure; NMR relaxation; Molecular biophysics; Prostate cancer; EGF module; PSP94; Beta-microseminoprotein; Protein S;

    Abstract : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 3. 3. Fast isolation of proteins from bioreactors using affinity chromatography techniques

    Author : Eva Pålsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromatography; protein purification; analyses; dispersion; chromatography matrices; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Metabolism; expanded bed; metabolism; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The purification of proteins from raw materials like fermentation broth and other biological sources usually involves several purification steps and is rather time consuming and expensive. This is a major concern in the production of many important protein products e.g. pharmaceuticals such as insulin and blood coagulation factors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Protein Complexity via Non-Native States: Binding, Stability, and Structural Studies of Calbindin D9k and HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells)

    Author : Jonas Fast; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; apoptosis; oleic acid; HAMLET; kinetic trap alpha-lactalbumin; calbindin; calcium; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Using optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC), I have studied two different calcium binding proteins that can form kinetically trapped altered states. Calcium is very important in numerous biological processes such as blood coagulation, signal transduction, muscle contraction and bone formation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Selenium Compounds in Milk. Studies of Selenoproteins, Selenium Enrichment and Oxidative Stability of Food

    Author : Tien Hoac; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Copper; Zinc; Oxidative stability; Thioredoxin reductase; Glutathione peroxidase; Selenoproteins; Milk; Selenium supplementation; Technological sciences; Teknik;

    Abstract : Selenium is an essential nutrient and in animals and humans it can either be specifically incorporated into proteins as selenocysteine or randomly as selenomethionine. It can also occur as low-molecular-weight compounds and the form of selenium in foods may also influence food quality. READ MORE
