  1. 1. Studies of actinides in a superanoxic fjord

    University dissertation from Radiation Physics, Lund

    Author : Per Roos; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Geology; colloids.; TIMS; pore water; remobilisation; sediments; ultrafiltration; uranium; thorium; americium; plutonium; Anoxic; Framvaren; fjord; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Actinidelementen plutonium, americium, torium och uran har analyserats i sediment och vatten i den superanoxiska Framvaren fjord, Norge. Koncentrationerna av Pu och Am i fjordens bottenvatten hör till de högst uppmätta i den marina miljön och toriumkoncentrationerna är de högsta uppmätta i någon marin miljö. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phosphorus recycling in brackish and marine environments - Sediment investigations in situ in the Baltic Sea and the By Fjord

    University dissertation from Radiation Physics, Lund

    Author : Lena Viktorsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus; sediment; anoxia; Baltic Sea; By Fjord; benthic flux;

    Abstract : The phosphorus load to the oceans from land started to increase since around 1950 when man started to mine phosphorus-mineral from phosphorus-rich soils and bedrock. The increased use of phosphorus fertilizers in agriculture together with the growth of coastal cities increased the load of phosphorus to the coastal ocean where plankton production flourished. 3. 3. Spatial distribution and conservation planning of seabed biological diversity

    University dissertation from Radiation Physics, Lund

    Author : Genoveva Gonzalez-Mirelis; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2011]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatial autocorrelation; ecological classifications; distribution modelling; biotopes; conservation planning; biodiversity surrogates; GIS; spatial ecology; benthos; fjord;

    Abstract : Knowledge of spatial patterns of biota has become a commodity for conservation practitioners and spatial ecologists alike. This type of information enables the identification of representative and unique biological features (at some nominal scale) which itself constitutes the application par excellence of knowledge of biodiversity distribution as it relates to the design of reserve networks and the realization of spatial planning. 4. 4. Long-term changes in macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast An evaluation of eutrophication effects with special emphasis on increased organic sedimentation

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Britas Klemens Eriksson; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Eutrophication; Fragmentation; Fucus vesiculosus; Functional group; Gullmar Fjord; Macroalgae; Long-term changes; Reproduction; Sedimentation; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : In this thesis I examine and evaluate the effects of a documented large-scale eutrophication on macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast. During the past century the load of nutrients has increased manifold in the Baltic Sea area, increasing primary production and organic sedimentation significantly. READ MORE

  5. 5. Factors Influencing the Yield of Mutations Induced by Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Mammalian Cells

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för genetik, mikrobiologi och toxikologi

    Author : Anne Lagerqvist; Stockholms universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Biochemistry Toxicology; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Biokemi Toxikologi; Toxicological Genetics; toxikologisk genetik;

    Abstract : Environmental contaminants are ubiquitously present in the urban environment, this has the implication that humans are exposed to toxic and carcinogenic chemicals. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are one type of environmental contaminants, which are produced by combustion of organic compounds. READ MORE
