  1. 1. Studies of actinides in a superanoxic fjord

    Author : Per Roos; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Geology; colloids.; TIMS; pore water; remobilisation; sediments; ultrafiltration; uranium; thorium; americium; plutonium; Anoxic; Framvaren; fjord; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Water column and sediment profiles of plutonium, americium, thorium and uranium have been obtained in the superanoxic Framvaren fjord, southern Norway. The concentrations of bomb test fallout Pu, Am as well as 'dissolved' Th in the bottom water are the highest recorded in the marine environment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phosphorus recycling in brackish and marine environments - Sediment investigations in situ in the Baltic Sea and the By Fjord

    Author : Lena Viktorsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus; sediment; anoxia; Baltic Sea; By Fjord; benthic flux;

    Abstract : The phosphorus load to the oceans from land started to increase since around 1950 when man started to mine phosphorus-mineral from phosphorus-rich soils and bedrock. The increased use of phosphorus fertilizers in agriculture together with the growth of coastal cities increased the load of phosphorus to the coastal ocean where plankton production flourished. 3. 3. Spatial distribution and conservation planning of seabed biological diversity

    Author : Genoveva Gonzalez-Mirelis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatial autocorrelation; ecological classifications; distribution modelling; biotopes; conservation planning; biodiversity surrogates; GIS; spatial ecology; benthos; fjord;

    Abstract : Knowledge of spatial patterns of biota has become a commodity for conservation practitioners and spatial ecologists alike. This type of information enables the identification of representative and unique biological features (at some nominal scale) which itself constitutes the application par excellence of knowledge of biodiversity distribution as it relates to the design of reserve networks and the realization of spatial planning. 4. 4. Long-term changes in macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast : An evaluation of eutrophication effects with special emphasis on increased organic sedimentation

    Author : Britas Klemens Eriksson; Francisco Xavier Niell Castanera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Eutrophication; Fragmentation; Fucus vesiculosus; Functional group; Gullmar Fjord; Macroalgae; Long-term changes; Reproduction; Sedimentation; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : In this thesis I examine and evaluate the effects of a documented large-scale eutrophication on macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast. During the past century the load of nutrients has increased manifold in the Baltic Sea area, increasing primary production and organic sedimentation significantly. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental, petrological and geochemical investigations of ikaite (CaCO3·6H2O) formation in marine environments

    Author : Elin Tollefsen; Alasdair Skelton; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Erik Sturkell; Andrew Putnis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ikaite; petrology; experiment; geochemistry; marine environments; pseudomorphs; calcium carbonate; Ikka Fjord; glendonite; nepheline; siderite; paleotemperature; carbonatite; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Carbonates are a group of minerals that play an essential role in several processes on planet Earth, for example in the global carbon cycle and as a product of biomineralisation. Calcite (CaCO3) is by far the most common mineral in the carbonate group, and the stable form of carbonate at Earth surface conditions. READ MORE
