  1. 1. ANALYZING THE HYDRO DYNAMICS AND THE CHEMICAL REACTIONS IN PULP DIGESTER SYSTEMS USING CFD MODELLING

    Author : Bijan Pourian; Erik Dahlquist; Laszlo Fuchs; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; MODELLING; SIMULATION; PULP; DIGESTER. CHEMICAL; MULTIPHASE; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to use differential analysis and finite volume method (FVM) to model and analyze a continuous pulp digester in order to create a detailed picture of the flow behaviour and chemical reactions in the digester. This information will be used to optimize wood chip flow and reactions and to diagnose and avoid faults such as hang-ups and channelling. READ MORE

  2. 2. Foam-formed Fiber Networks: Manufacturing, Characterization, and Numerical Modeling : With a Note on the Orientation Behavior of Rod-like Particles in Newtonian Fluids

    Author : Majid Alimadadi; Per Gradin; Pär Jonsén; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 3D fiber network structure; foam forming; numerical modeling; compression simulation; orientation; wall-bounded flow; CFD; Jeffery orbits; LS-DYNA;

    Abstract : Fiber networks are ubiquitous and are seen in both industrial materials (paper and nonwovens) and biological materials (plant cells and animal tissues). Nature intricately manipulates these network structures by varying their density, aggregation, and fiber orientation to create a variety of functionalities. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Model for Simulation of Fiber Suspension Flows

    Author : David Hammarström; KTH; []
    Keywords : rheology; fiber; suspension; CFD; model; wall; slip; turbulence;

    Abstract : The fiber suspensions in the production line from wood topaper are subjected to many types of chemical and mechanicalprocesses, in which the flow of the suspension is of vitalimportance. The flow of the suspension determines the degree ofuniformity of the fibers through the processing, which inreturn affects the properties of the fiber suspension. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pressurized entrained-flow high temperature black liquor gasification : CFD based reactor scale-up method and spray burner characterization

    Author : Magnus Marklund; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Black liquor is an important by-product in the chemical kraft pulping process, which provides the paper mill with pulp. Due to both economical and environmental protection driving forces it is important to recover the pulping chemicals and energy contained in the black liquor. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling and simulation of pressurised black liquor gasification at high temperature

    Author : Magnus Marklund; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Black liquor (BL), a by-product of the chemical pulping process, is an important liquid fuel in the pulp and paper industry. It contains almost all of the inorganic cooking chemicals along with the lignin and other organic matter separated from the wood during pulping in the digester. READ MORE
