1. Signaling mechanisms underlying neural stem cell differentiation. Implications of BMPs, retinoids, and MAP kinases
Abstract : Introduction: Neural stem cells are proliferating cells, derived from the nervous system with the ability to give rise to neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. The molecular events and signaling pathways regulating neural stem cell differentiation are largely unknown. READ MORE

2. New neurons and astrocytes in the adult brain. Studies on adult rat neural progenitors in vivo and in vitro with special reference to the effects of IGF-I and CNTF regarding proliferation and lineage determination
Abstract : The hippocampal dentate gyrus in several species, including man, continues to produce new neurons and glial cells in adulthood. The generation of new neurons and glial cells in the adult hippocampus is under strict regulation. Two major events of significance for cell genesis from progenitor cells are proliferation and lineage determination. READ MORE

3. Spinal cord grafts : interaction with cografts and effects of trophic factors
Abstract : Spinal cord injury is common in the modern society, often afflicts young individuals, and often has devastating consequences. The present work studies possibilities to obtain better conditions for regeneration of the transected spinal cord in rats, conditions under which spinal cord grafts are able to establish structural and functional connections with "natural" targets, and effects of a series of neurotrophic factors on spinal cord graft survival and growth. 4. Regulation of CGRP expression in rat spinal motoneurons
Abstract : The normal distribution and lesion-induced changes in the expression of neuropeptides and growth-related proteins, with special reference to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP),were studied in the motor system of the rat. In addition, factors that influence the expression of CGRP in motoneurons were identified. READ MORE

5. On the actions of neurotrophic factors on the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla
Abstract : Chromaffin cells producing adrenaline or noradrenaline are the predominant cell type in the adrenal medulla, but ganglion cells and Schwann cells are also present. All cells of the adrenal medulla are derived from the neural crest, which is a transient neuroectoderm-derived embryonic structure. READ MORE
