1. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants : Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects
Abstract : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. READ MORE

2. Ligands of the Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor : Exploring structure and function of the AT2R ligand C38
Abstract : The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS) control blood-pressure regulation, exerted by the main effector peptide angiotensin II (AngII) binding the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R). While hypertension is the most known disease caused by over-activity in RAAS, several proteins in the system exhibit protective functions. READ MORE

4. Multicomponent Reactions in 11C/12C Chemistry : – Targeting the Angiotensin II Subtype 2 Receptor
Abstract : Section 1 of this thesis contains an introduction to method development in organic synthesis, multicomponent reactions, sulfonyl azides, tracer development in 11C chemistry and the biological target.Section 2 describes the use of sulfonyl azides in carbonylative chemistry. Paper I covers development of a diazotransfer protocol. READ MORE

5. Amidst the green Metal-catalyzed amide formation from carboxylic acids
Abstract : This thesis describes novel methods for transition metal-catalyzed transformation of non-activated carboxylic acids to amides. It was found that 2-10 mol% of zirconium(IV) chloride or 10-20 mol% titanium(IV) isopropoxide catalyzed the formation of a range of secondary and tertiary amides in good to excellent yields (61-99%) in THF at 70-100°C, with molecular sieves present as water scavengers.
