    Author : Sara Spjut; Mikael Elofsson; Ulf Ellervik; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glycoconjugates; Carbohydrates; Galactose; Glucose; Solid-phase synthesis; SPOS; Glycosylation; Gel-phase 19F NMR spectroscopy; Fluorinated linker; Carbohydrate array; Microtiter plates; Carbohydrate-protein interactions; carbamate linker; Fsec; Protecting group; Fluorinated protecting group; Multivalent glycoconjugates; Adenovirus; Ad37; Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis; EKC; Sialic acid; Adenovirus inhibitor; Trivalent; Tetravalent; X-ray crystal structure; Bioorganic chemistry; Bioorganisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : To study the functions of glycoconjugates in biological systems reliable and efficient protocols for glycoconjugate synthesis are needed. To reach this goal we have developed methods for solid-phase synthesis of glycoconjugates that can be monitored with gel-phase 19F spectroscopy using fluorinated linkers, building blocks, and protecting groups. 2. 2. Carbohydrate Synthesis and Study of Carbohydrate-Lectin Interactions Using QCM Biosensors and Microarray Technologies

    Author : Zhichao Pei; Olof Ramström; Roland J. Pieters; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lectins; Carbohydrates; Molecular recognition; Biosensors; Quartz crystal microbalance; Carbohydrate microarrays.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Interactions between carbohydrates and proteins are increasingly being recognized as crucial in many biological processes, such as cellular adhesion and communication. In order to investigate the interactions of carbohydrates and proteins, the development of efficient analytic technologies, as well as novel strategies for the synthesis of carbohydrates, have to be explored. 3. 3. Affinity biosensors with porous and multi-array surfaces

    Author : Danny van Noort; Otto Wolfbeis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Affinity biosensing is one of many analytical techniques that have high potential for the detection of drug leads. In this thesis the use of ellipsometry, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) as well as quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) as screening methods in drug discovery are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reading a glycocode - mechanism and function of galectin-glycan interactions

    Author : Emma Salomonsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galectin; specificity; affinity; multivalency; fluorescence anisotropy; glycan array; serum glycoproteins; anginex;

    Abstract : There is an intensive interest in characterising the structure and function of galectins, which is not surprising given their many important cellular functions and strong implications in human disease. Understanding the mechanisms involved in galectin functions will help to find selective and novel strategies for disease treatment and diagnosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Glycoconjugates : Solid-phase synthesis and biological applications

    Author : Fredrik Wallner; Mikael Elofsson; Jan Kihlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glycoconjugate; Glycolipid; Solid-phase synthesis; Glycosylation; Gel-phase 19F-NMR spectroscopy; Fluorinated linker; Carbohydrat array; CD1; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Glycoconjugates are biologically important molecules with diverse functions. They consist of carbohydrates of varying size and complexity, attached to a non-sugar moiety as a lipid or a protein. Glycoconjugate structures are often very complex and their intricate biosynthetic pathways makes overexpression difficult. READ MORE
