  1. 21. The Challenges of Analyzing the Molecular Properties of Starch

    Author : Daysi Pérez; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Amaranthus caudatus; Chenopodium quinoa; Chenopodium pallidicaule; Canna indica; Lepidium meyenii; Xanthosoma sagittifolium; Manihot esculenta; starch; amylose; amylopectin; field-flow fractionation; size distribution; dissolution;

    Abstract : Both the nutritional and functional properties of starch are directly influenced by the molecular structure of its polymers: amylose and amylopectin. It is therefore important to have reproducible methods for quantifying the molecular size. READ MORE

  2. 22. Evaluation of locally available feed resources for striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)

    Author : Chau Thi Da; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated and compared inputs and outputs, economic factors and current feed use in small-scale farming systems producing striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in the Mekong Delta. The nutrient content of locally available natural feed resources for striped catfish was determined and growth performance, feed utilisation and body indices were analysed in pond-cultured striped catfish fed diets where fish meal protein was replaced with protein from local feed resources. 3. 23. At the crossroads of bioenergy and agriculture in developing countries : Challenges and prospects for fossil fuels replacement and CO2 abatement in the case of Thailand

    Author : Wathanyu Amatayakul; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; bioenergy plantations; land-use decision; developing countries; CO2 abatement; ethanol program; Thailand; wood crops; CDM;

    Abstract : Studies estimate that the potential contribution of biomass to the global primary energy supply from cultivation of crops for energy is substantial in the long term, from about 50 to 240 EJ/year in 2050. Most of this biomass is projected to come from cultivation in developing countries. READ MORE

  4. 24. Environmental aspects of coal mine drainage: a regional study of Moatize in Mozambique

    Author : Estevao Pondja; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []

    Abstract : Mozambique is one of the largest coal producers in Africa. Extraction of the coal is carried out in the Moatize district of the Tete province in the center of the country. A surface mining technique is used to extract the coal below ground level. READ MORE

  5. 25. Forage legumes as feed for pigs in smallholder production systems in the North of Lao PDR : production systems, forage biomass yield and protein nutrition

    Author : Phonepaseuth Phengsavanh; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis sought to characterise and understand existing smallholder pig production systems in the North of Lao PDR and to investigate the role of forage legumes as alternative protein sources for pigs in smallholder production systems. A survey found that there were three main pig rearing systems, free-scavenging, semi-scavenging and confinement (enclosures and pens), in the study areas. READ MORE
