  1. 6. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions

    Author : Urban Persson; Sven Werner; Lars J. Nilsson; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; district heating; energy efficiency; distribution capital cost; heat demand density; plot ratio; excess heat recovery; sequential energy supply; heat utilisation rate; effective width;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 2. 7. Energy Efficiency and Preservation in Our Cultural Heritage : EEPOCH

    Author : Heidi Norrström; Michael Edén; Andrew Dainty; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy performance; preserved built heritage; historic and architectural values; laws and regulations; collaboration through workshops; interdisciplinarity; transdisciplinarity; multiple case study and indoor climate;

    Abstract : The project EEPOCH concerns our built heritage and the complex set of problems that exist between energy efficiency and preservation perspectives. New legislation demanding efficient energy use is predicated on the documented potential of energy efficiency on both national and international levels. READ MORE

  3. 8. Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Lignin into Bio-Oil

    Author : Huyen Nguyen Lyckeskog; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrothermal conversion; aging; bio-oil; stability; subcritical water; lignin;

    Abstract : Lignin, one of the three main components of lignocellulosic biomass, is the second most abundant organic polymer found on Earth. Nowadays, most of the lignin (almost 99%) produced in the Kraft pulping process is used as internal fuel. READ MORE

  5. 10. Catalytic conversion of LignoBoost Kraft lignin into liquid products in near-critical water

    Author : Huyen Nguyen Lyckeskog; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LignoBoost; Catalytic conversion; Hydrothermal conversion; Bio-oil; Near-critical water; Lignin;

    Abstract : Lignin, one of the three main components of lignocellulosic biomass, is the second most abundant organic polymer found on Earth. Due to its aromatic nature, lignin is recognized as being a potential feedstock for producing transportation fuel and high value-added chemicals. READ MORE
