  1. 11. Neck injuries in rear impacts : Dummy neck development, dummy evaluation and test condition specifications

    Author : Astrid Linder; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Neck; Injury; Anthropometric dummy; Severity; Impact test; Rear end collision; Seat; Mathematical model; Velocity; Thesis; Optimization; Mathematical neck models; Rear impact tests; Biomechanics; Road: Components of the vehicle; Road: Components of the vehicle;

    Abstract : The objective of the work underlying this thesis was firstly to develop a neck for a new rear impact dummy, to evaluate the complete dummy and to specify test conditions for a consumer test with attention to AIS 1 neck injuries in rear impacts. In the development of the dummy neck, a mathematical neck model was developed and evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 12. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions

    Author : Urban Persson; Sven Werner; Lars J. Nilsson; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; district heating; energy efficiency; distribution capital cost; heat demand density; plot ratio; excess heat recovery; sequential energy supply; heat utilisation rate; effective width;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 3. 13. Challenges of renovating the Gothenburg multi-family building stock - An analysis of comprehensive building-specific information, including energy performance, ownership and affordability

    Author : Mikael Mangold; Seppo Junnila; Sweden Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aging building stock; Energy performance certificate; Energy retrofitting; Equity; GIS; Göteborg; Measured energy usage; Multi-family dwellings; Social sustainability; Tenure;

    Abstract : In Sweden and many European countries, the building stock increased at a rapid pace during the period of 1950-1975. This aging building stock is in need of renovation which is a challenge and an opportunity in reaching the energy performance targets as well as decreasing societal inequities. READ MORE

  4. 14. Real-time information for disruption management in intermodal freight transport

    Author : Per Wide; Sweden Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the recovery phase after operational disruptions in intermodal freight transport, which is a vital aspect of mitigating impacts such as late deliveries and thus achieving high operational efficiency. Intermodal freight transport is influenced by the ongoing development of information and communication technologies. READ MORE

  5. 15. The Absent Meaning of Concrete Form in Theory of Architecture

    Author : Cecilia Häggström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; body; aesthetic theory; architecture; practical knowledge; artifacts; environmental theory; building function; architectural theory; phenomenology; aesthetic theory;

    Abstract : The aim of this dissertation is to discuss architecture as forming practical conditions for our way-of-being, and to clarify that which prevents traditional theory of architecture from dealing with these practical conditions as such. The dissertation investigates a theoretical problem concerning the nature of the relation between human being and the built environment. READ MORE
