  1. 1. The interplay of ions in the stimulation of the pancreatic -cell

    Author : Michael Eberhardson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; pancreatic β-cells; cytoplasmic calcium; oscillations; glucose; tetrodotoxin; tolbutamide; veratridine; tetraethylammonium; quinine; cesium; H2DIDS; furosemide; transients; microfluorometry; fura-2; MQAE; calcium channels; potassium channels; sodium channels; chloride channels; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Glucose stimulation of insulin release is mediated by depolarisation of the pancreatic β-cells with accompanying entry of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent channels. An important feature of the glucose-induced depolarisation is its rhythmicity causing oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which trigger pulsatile release of insulin. 3. 3. The Role of Suppliers and Resellers : Cases of Timber Product Distribution Channels

    Author : Wei Guan; Jakob Rehme; Staffan Brege; Tomas Nord; Anders Roos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Distribution channels; roles; role changes; downstream vertical integration; offerings; timber products;

    Abstract : This dissertation aims to explain the impacts of distribution channel developments on the roles of timber product distribution channel actors. The role of channel actors in this dissertation is defined as the structured behaviour pattern that combines activities and resources in distribution channels. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantized Feedback for Slow Fading Channels

    Author : Thanh Tùng Kim; Mikael Skoglund; Geir Øien; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fading channels; information rates; feedback communications; diversity methods; MIMO systems; power control; adaptive systems; quantization.; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : Two topics in fading channels with a strict delay constraint and a resolution-constrained feedback link are treated in this thesis. First, a multi-layer variable-rate single-antenna communication system with quantized feedback, where the expected rate is chosen as the performance measure, is studied under both short-term and long-term power constraints. 5. 5. Modeling of voltage-gated ion channels

    Author : Pär Bjelkmar; Erik Lindahl; Toby W. Allen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular modeling; Molecular dynamics; Voltage-gating; Ion channels; Protein structure prediction; Chemistry; Kemi; biokemi; inriktning teoretisk kemi; Biochemistry with Emphasis on Theoretical Chemistry;

    Abstract : The recent determination of several crystal structures of voltage-gated ion channels has catalyzed computational efforts of studying these remarkable molecular machines that are able to conduct ions across biological membranes at extremely high rates without compromising the ion selectivity. Starting from the open crystal structures, we have studied the gating mechanism of these channels by molecular modeling techniques. READ MORE
