  1. 1. Region-specific expression of the interleukin-1 system in rat brain following endotoxin challenge and excitotoxic neurodegeneration

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Charlotta Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Traditionally, up-regulation and secretion of cytokines are associated with peripheral immune and inflammatory responses. There is now evidence that cytokines also exert various actions in the central nervous system (CNS). READ MORE

  2. 2. Cardiovascular and metabolic effects of long-term traffic noise exposure

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Institute of Environmental Medicine

    Author : Charlotta Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Traffic noise is an increasingly common environmental exposure affecting large parts of the European population. Since the auditory system is directly linked to the sympathetic nervous and the endocrine systems, noise may induce a stress response, influencing several physiological, metabolic and immunological processes. 3. 3. Detection and Characterisation of Salmonella in Animal Feed Samples by PCR-Based Methods

    University dissertation from Applied Microbiology

    Author : Charlotta Löfström; Löfström Charlotta; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : Biologi; Biology; Kemi; Chemistry; SKOGS- och JORDBRUKSVETENSKAP samt LANDSKAPSPLANERING; FORESTRY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES and LANDSCAPE PLANNING; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; validation; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Salmonella; ribotyping; detection; animal feed; randomly amplified polymorphic DNA; pulsed-field gel electrophorsis; pre-PCR processing; PCR; polymerase chain reaction; genotyping;

    Abstract : Animal feed is a recognised source of Salmonella enterica for farm livestock and may also indirectly cause infection in people consuming foods of animal origin. It is therefore important to have rapid, reproducible and specific methods for the detection of Salmonella in feed, and for the characterisation of strains for further epidemiological investigations or to trace the source of contamination in a production facility. 4. 4. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation

    University dissertation from Anita Frank, WNC, BMC A11, 221 84 Lund

    Author : Cecilia Eriksson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : RCAS A -EGFP; Gtv-a; transplantation; cell detection; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; GFP-actin; glial differentiation; neuronal differentiation; neurospheres; glial cultures; bFGF; EGF; cell expansion; cortical primordium; MGE; LGE; CNS; stem- progenitor cells; MEDICIN; MEDICINE;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 5. 5. EMBRYONIC GLIA AND FOREBRAIN NEUROGENESIS; in vitro generation and differentiation of telencephalic neurons

    University dissertation from Anita Frank, BMC A11, 221 84 Lund, SWEDEN

    Author : Charlotta Skogh; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : GFAP; beta tubulin III; RC2; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurofysiologi; DARPP-32; retinoic acid; serum; EGF; co-culture; cell culture; striatum; LGE; progenitor; precursor; radial glia; region specific; development; CNS; mouse; human; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; MEDICIN; MEDICINE;

    Abstract : The current thesis is aimed to increase our understanding of the generation and differentiation of telencephalic neurons, with emphasis on the role of glial cells in these processes. Using in vitro methods we have studied the role of glial cells in neurogenesis, inheritance of genetic regional specification, and influence on differentiation of neurons. READ MORE
