  1. 1. Performance problem diagnosis in cloud infrastructures

    Author : Olumuyiwa Ibidunmoye; Erik Elmroth; Guilliano Casale; Viktoria Fodor; Henrik Björklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Systems Performance; Performance anomalies; Performance bottlenecks; Cloud infrastructures; Cloud Computing; Cloud Services; Cloud Computing Performance; Performance problems; Performance anomaly detection; Performance bottleneck identification; Performance Root-cause Analysis; Computer Systems; datorteknik; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Abstract : Cloud datacenters comprise hundreds or thousands of disparate application services, each having stringent performance and availability requirements, sharing a finite set of heterogeneous hardware and software resources. The implication of such complex environment is that the occurrence of performance problems, such as slow application response and unplanned downtimes, has become a norm rather than exception resulting in decreased revenue, damaged reputation, and huge human-effort in diagnosis. 2. 2. Energy-efficient cloud computing : autonomic resource provisioning for datacenters

    Author : Selome Kostentinos Tesfatsion; Johan Tordsson; Eddie Wadbro; Erik Elmroth; Laurent Lefevre; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud computing; datacenter; energy-efficiency; performance management; virtualization;

    Abstract : Energy efficiency has become an increasingly important concern in data centers because of issues associated with energy consumption, such as capital costs, operating expenses, and environmental impact. While energy loss due to suboptimal use of facilities and non-IT equipment has largely been reduced through the use of best-practice technologies, addressing energy wastage in IT equipment still requires the design and implementation of energy-aware resource management systems. 3. 3. Autonomous cloud resource provisioning : accounting, allocation, and performance control

    Author : Ewnetu Bayuh Lakew; Erik Elmroth; Hiaohui (Helen) Gu; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloud computing; distributed infrastructure; monitoring; accounting; performance modeling; service differentiation; business data processing; administrativ databehandling;

    Abstract : The emergence of large-scale Internet services coupled with the evolution of computing technologies such as distributed systems, parallel computing, utility computing, grid, and virtualization has fueled a movement toward a new resource provisioning paradigm called cloud computing. The main appeal of cloud computing lies in its ability to provide a shared pool of infinitely scalable computing resources for cloud services, which can be quickly provisioned and released on-demand with minimal effort.
