  1. 1. Role of collagen type II specific antibodies in arthritis

    Author : Estelle Bajtner; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serologi; transplantation; serology; Immunology; tolerance; collagen type II; CIA; B cell epitope; antibody; arthritis; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting in destruction of cartilage and bone. The role of the B cells in RA pathogenesis clearly involves autoantibodies. Collagen type II (CII)-specific antibodies have been identified in RA synovium and synovial fluid. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Role of Fc gamma Receptors and Mast Cell Chymase in Autoimmune Arthritis

    Author : Sofia Magnusson; Sandra Kleinau; Jeanette Leusen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fc gamma receptors; rheumatoid arthritis; antibodies; mast cells; mast cell; Immunology; Immunologi; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : In autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), self-reactive antibodies are present at high levels, which contributes to disease pathogenesis. The antibodies mediate their effect predominantly by binding to Fc gamma receptors (FcγR) on various leukocytes, such as monocytes, macrophages and mast cells, where FcγR ligation leads to cell activation. 3. 3. T cells in Autoimmunity: studies on murine type II collagen-induced arthritis

    Author : Alexandre Corthay; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunologi; Autoimmunity T lymphocytes collagen-induced arthritis Glycosylation TCR; transplantation; serology; Immunology; serologi; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi;

    Abstract : Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis, in which autoimmunity is induced by immunization with type II collagen (CII), a cartilage-specific protein. In the present work, alpha/beta T cells were shown to be required for CIA and for the production of anti-CII IgG antibodies, whereas gamma/delta T cells were neither necessary nor sufficient for development of CIA. 4. 4. Anti-Collagen Type II Autoantibodies in an Acute Phenotype of Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Author : Mohammed Mullazehi; Johan Rönnelid; Bosse Nilsson; Kutty Selva Nandakumar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease with systemic inflammatory features that primarily affects small peripheral joints. Type II collagen (CII), is the most abundant collagen type in joint cartilage. Antibodies against CII (anti-CII) are found in a subpopulation of RA patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cartilage proteins and their arthritogenic properties in arthritis

    Author : Stefan Carlsén; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; HLA-DR4; tolerance; COMP; CXI; CIX; arthritis; Cartilage; collagen;

    Abstract : In this thesis the role of cartilage proteins and their potential as antigen and availability to the immune system in arthritis were investigated. Six papers are included; where four present new animal models for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), one shows how genetic disorders in cartilage may affect arthritis and the last how posttranslational modification of collagen type II (CII) affects tolerance.
