  1. 1. Cellular Uptake of Amyloid Forming Proteins Related to Neurodegenerative Disease

    Author : Emelie Vilhelmsson Wesén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aβ 1-40 ; flow cytometry; confocal microscopy; SH-SY5Y; fluorescence; Aβ 1-42 ; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloid fibril; α-synuclein; amyloid-β;

    Abstract : Aggregation and deposition of disease-associated protein is a pathological hallmark of several human disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). These diseases are characterized by the formation of amyloid-β (Aβ) and α-synuclein (α-syn) amyloid fibrils, in extracellular and intracellular locations, respectively. READ MORE

  2. 2. Quantitative methods for diffusion measurements in fluorescence microscopy

    Author : Marco Longfils; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross-validation.; single particle tracking; Confocal laser scanning microscopy; raster scan; correlation spectroscopy; mixture models; diffusion;

    Abstract : In this work, statistical methods are developed for mapping mass transport locally based on images collected using a confocal laser scanning microscope. Besides presenting raster image correlation spectroscopy as an established method in fluorescence microscopy, we introduce a single particle tracking method which takes advantage of the raster scanning of the image in a confocal microscope. 3. 3. Diagnostic aspects of skin cancer and lichen sclerosus studied with laser scanning microscopy

    Author : Despoina Kantere; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; skin cancer; lichen sclerosus; reflactance confocal microscopy; multiphoton microscopy;

    Abstract : Histopathologic examination of tissue biopsies is the current gold standard for the diagnosis of dermatological problems. Similarly, in oncology, sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is the state-of-the-art diagnostic method for me- tastasis screening. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lightguiding of Fluorescence in Nanowires : Principles, Optimization and Implementation for Biosensing

    Author : Damiano Verardo; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanowires; Biosensing; Fluorescence microscopy;

    Abstract : Due to their unique optical properties, III-V nanowires are promising candidates for the development of efficient solar cells, LEDs and nanoscaled lasers. The interaction of nanowires with fluorescent molecules is also of interest, as these nanostructures can act as nanoscaled optical fibers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Approaches to Optimizing High Content Confocal Microscopy

    Author : Erland Lewin; Hjalmar Brismar; Kjell S. Carlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis presents two methods for improving high contentconfocal microscopy.The author's part in the first, "Toward a confocal subcellular atlasof the human proteome" was automating image capture of foursimultaneously tagged structures in cells in 96 well plates. In total,thousands of images of hundreds of proteins in cells. READ MORE
