  1. 1. Multicomponent Clusters/Nanoparticles : An Investigation of Electronic and Geometric Properties by Photoelectron Spectroscopy

    Author : Chaofan Zhang; Olle Björneholm; Maxim Tchaplyguine; Svante Svensson; Gerd Ganteför; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Clusters; Nanoparticles; Alloy; Atmospheric chemistry; Alkali halide; Transition metals; X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy; Polarizability; Core-shell; Sandwich structure; MAX-lab; BESSY II;

    Abstract : Clusters/nanoparticles are aggregates of a “small” number of building blocks, atoms or molecules, ranging from two up to millions of atoms. Two main groups of clusters have been studied using photoelectron spectroscopy based on synchrotron radiation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rare-gas Clusters Studied by Electron Spectroscopy : Structure of Heterogeneous Clusters and Effects of Electron Scattering on Auger Decay

    Author : Marcus Lundwall; Olle Björneholm; Gunnar Öhrwall; Maxim Tchaplyguine; Thomas Möller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; Nano-particles; Clusters; Heterogeneous clusters; Core-shell clusters; XPS; UPS; AES; Electron scattering; Radial structure; Surface structure; Surface sensitivity; Synchrotron radiation; Ne; Ar; Kr; Xe; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this Thesis experimental studies of nano-clusters using synchrotron radiation based photoelectron (UPS and XPS) and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) are presented. The investigations may be divided into two parts where the first reports on the structure of heterogeneous two component clusters, and the second concerns electronic decay processes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computer Simulations of Polymer Gels : Structure, Dynamics, and Deformation

    Author : Natasha Kamerlin; Christer Elvingson; Jan Forsman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer simulations; Brownian dynamics; polymer gel; microgel; spherical boundary conditions; hypersphere; core-shell; deswelling; mechanical properties; uniaxial elongation;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results of computer simulation studies of the structure, dynamics, and deformation of cross-linked polymer gels. Obtaining a fundamental understanding of the interrelation between the detailed structure and the properties of polymer gels is a challenge and a key issue towards designing materials for specific purposes. 4. 4. Platinum-free Electrocatalysts : Design, Synthesis, and Energy Applications

    Author : Yi Yang; Inna Soroka; Carina Lagergren; Serhiy Cherevko; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pt-free electrocatalysts; γ-radiation induced synthesis; size; morphology; structure; and composition of nanocatalysts; ORR; catalytic activity and durability; formation mechanism of catalyst materials in aqueous solutions.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Pt is one of the most commonly used catalysts for green energy applications, such as fuel cells, electrolyzers, and dye-sensitized solar cells. Although enormous effort has been put into improving the catalytic activity and minimizing the usage of Pt in the catalysts, the low abundance and high price of Pt still limit the large-scale commercialization of green energy devices and facilities. 5. 5. Modification of Oxide Surfaces with Functional Organic Molecules, Nanoparticles, and Hetero-Oxide Layers

    Author : Shilpi Chaudhary; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysicumarkivet A:2015:Chaudhary;

    Abstract : The research work described in this thesis is concerned with the modification of oxide surfaces, as reflected by its title. The surfaces and their modification have been studied using a range of experimental surface characterization tools, in particular x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), fluorescence microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning tunneling microscopy.
