  1. 1. On Monte Carlo Operators for Studying Collisional Relaxation in Toroidal Plasmas

    Author : Qaisar Mukhtar; Torbjörn Hellsten; Tainia Kurki-Suonio; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion plasma; thermonuclear fusion; tokamak; Coulomb collisions; stochastic differential equations with singular diffusion coefficients; Monte Carlo schemes; spatial diffusion; modelling; Fokker-Planck equation; RF-heating.;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns modelling of Coulomb collisions in toroidal plasma with Monte Carlo operators, which is important for many applications such as heating, current drive and collisional transport in fusion plasmas. Collisions relax the distribution functions towards local isotropic ones and transfer power to the background species when they are perturbed e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Collisional effects and attosecond diagnostics in laser-generated plasmas

    Author : Andréas Sundström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrostatic shocks; plasma physics; plasma diagnostics; laser-plasmas; attosecond pulses; extreme-ultraviolet; Coulomb collisions;

    Abstract : When matter is radiated by laser light of extreme intensity, it is rapidly ionized, thereby forming a plasma. Such laser-generated plasmas can be used as sources of energetic particles and radiation, or to study astrophysically relevant phenomena in the laboratory and the behavior of matter under extreme conditions. 3. 3. Statistical and Dynamical Aspects of Intermediate Energy Nuclear Collisions

    Author : Roberta Ghetti; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; excitation function.; subthreshold pions; pion production; neutron cross-talk; correlation function; interferometry; intermittency; phase transition; thermal scaling; reducibility; multifragmentation; Heavy ion collisions; intermediate energy; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Ghetti;

    Abstract : Studies of intermediate energy heavy ion reactions have revealed the existence of a number of reducibility and thermal scaling properties in nuclear multifragmentation. In particular, the probability of emitting n-fragments is reducible to the probability of emitting a single fragment through the binomial distribution. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electron transfer and fragmentation in fullerene collisions

    Author : Henning Zettergren; Henrik Cederquist; Paul-Antoine Hervieux; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fullerene; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we present results from detailed gas phase studies of intrinsic properties of fullerenes (C60) and clusters of fullerenes as probed by slow multiply charged (atomic or cluster) ions in combination with coincidence time-of-flight mass spectrometry. We have investigated the structures, stabilities, and the electron mobilities of multiply charged clusters of fullerenes, (C60)nr+ (r=2-5). READ MORE

  5. 5. Three Pion Interferometry in the NA44 Experiment

    Author : Janus Schmidt-Sörensen; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum field theory; heavy-ion physics; bose-einstein; Elementary particle physics; interferometry; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:1999:Schmidt-Sörensen;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a three-particle correlation analysis with pions originating from Sulphur-Lead and Lead-Lead collisions at 200 and 158 GeV/c per nucleon respectively, taken by the CERN heavy-ion experiment NA44. The genuine three-body correlation is suppressed in both colliding systems which indicates that the particle production source is partly coherent. READ MORE
