  1. 1. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain

    Author : Bejan Aresh; Malin Lagerström; Klas Kullander; Martin Schmelz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : mGluR7; anaphylaxis; Grpr; Penk; Pdyn; Cre line; BAC cloning; spinal cord; transgenic line; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. READ MORE

  2. 2. Life without mitochondrial DNA : studies of transgenic mice

    Author : Jianming Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : mitochondrial disease; mitochondrial DNA mtDNA ; mitochondrial transcripton factor A Tfam ; cre-loxP; conditional knockout; transgenic; mitochondrial cardiomyopathy; apoptosis;

    Abstract : Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a closed circular DNA genome that resides in the mitochondrial network. Mutations of mtDNA cause spontaneous and hereditary disorders known as mitochondrial diseases. Mitochondrial transcription factor A (Tfam) is a key factor for transcription of mtDNA in vitro. 3. 3. Somatosensory Circuits in the Central Nervous System

    Author : Hannah M. Weman; Malin C. Lagerström; Sarah E. Ross; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycine receptor alpha 3; urocortin 3; vesicular monoaminergic transporter 2; nociception; pruriception; spinal cord; somatosensory cortex; DREADD; rabies tracing; transcriptomics; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Spinal glycinergic neurons prevent spontaneous sensations of pain and itch, and development of persistent pain and itch conditions. The glycine receptor alpha 3 subunit (GLRA3) is suggested to be involved in certain inflammatory models, but not in acute nociception. READ MORE

  4. 4. The subthalamic nucleus in motor and affective functions : An optogenetic in vivo-investigation

    Author : Adriane Guillaumin; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Konstantinos Meletis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Subthalamic nucleus; optogenetics; basal ganglia; locomotion; Parkinson s disease; aversion; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : The basal ganglia form a group of subcortical interconnected nuclei involved in motor, limbic and cognitive functions. According to the classical model of the basal ganglia, two main pathways exert opposing control over movement, one facilitating movement and the other suppressing movement. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of N-cadherin and S1P/S1P1 in pancreas development

    Author : Jenny Johansson; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Organogenesis of epithelial organs requires interaction between epithelial and mesenchymal tissues. During pancreas development, mesenchyme-derived structures induce specification, growth and differentiation of pancreatic epithelial cells. READ MORE
