  1. 1. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain

    Author : Bejan Aresh; Malin Lagerström; Klas Kullander; Martin Schmelz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : mGluR7; anaphylaxis; Grpr; Penk; Pdyn; Cre line; BAC cloning; spinal cord; transgenic line; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. READ MORE

  2. 2. Taking Pressure of Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma : Molecular Studies of Apoptosis and Interstitial Hypertension

    Author : Pernilla Roswall; Nils-Erik Heldin; Kristofer Rubin; Sven Påhlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma; Apoptosis; Cre recombinase; 2-Methoxyestradiol; Transforming growth factor-β; Transgenic mouse; Tumor-associated macrophages; Tumor interstitial fluid pressure; Medicin;

    Abstract : Molecular mechanisms in the development and progression of thyroid carcinomas are still not fully understood. In the present thesis the highly malignant anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) was used to study regulation of apoptosis and tumor interstitial fluid pressure (IFP). READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of Spinal Motor Control Networks in Genetically Modified Mouse Models

    Author : Henrik Gezelius; Klas Kullander; Ted Ebendal; Martyn Goulding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acetyl choline; central nervous system; central pattern generator; Cre recombinase; development; genetic screen; glutamate; interneuron; motor neuron; mouse; mouse genetics; movement; network; neuronal network; nicotinic receptors; physiology; Renshaw cell; rhythm; spinal cord; transmitter; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Molecular neurobiology; Molekylär neurobiologi; Neurophysiology; Neurofysiologi; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Abstract : Spinal neurons are important in several aspects motor control. For example, the neurons essential for locomotor movements reside in the ventral spinal cord. In this thesis, different motor control functions are being related to neuronal populations defined by their common expression of a gene. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hox transcription factors in hematopoiesis

    Author : Jon Mar Björnsson; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor; Haematology; hematopoies; tet; Hox; cre lox;

    Abstract : Hematopoiesis is a lifelong, dynamic process in which a small number of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) residing in the bone marrow (BM) give rise to billions of mature blood cells of both myeloid and lymphoid origin each day. This enormous capacity of HSC has been utilized in BM transplantations for 4 decades and is also very important for future gene therapy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Conditional targeting of the PDGF-B gene

    Author : Maria Enge; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gene targeting; Cre loxP; PDGF; pericytes; diabetic retinopathy; brain injury; neurons;

    Abstract : Platelet derived growth factors (PDGF) are known as mitogens for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells (SMC) and glia cells in culture. Previous in vivo analyses have shown that PDGF-B is necessary for normal embryonic development and life after birth, but the relative importance of the various cellular sources of PDGF-B during development has not been clarified.
