  1. 1. Drowning-out crystallisation of benzoic acid : Influence of processing conditions and solvent composition on crystal size and shape

    Author : Xiomara Holmbäck; KTH; []
    Keywords : solvent effect; drowning-out; crystallization; benzoic acid; solubility; crystal habit; crystal growth; interfacial energy; growth mechanism;

    Abstract : The aim of the present investigation is to increase theunderstanding of the role played by the solvent in inhibitingor enhancing crystal growth. Drowning-out crystallizationexperiments has been performed by the controlled addition ofwater or ethanol water mixtures to a saturated solution ofbenzoic acid in ethanol-water mixtures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Crack growth in single crystal gas turbine blade alloys under service-like conditions

    Author : Frans Palmert; Johan Moverare; David Gustafsson; Mikael Segersäll; Philippa A.S. Reed; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Single crystal superalloy; TMF; Crack growth; Crystallographic crack growth; Aging; Hold time; Creep crack growth;

    Abstract : This work concerns the fatigue crack growth behaviour of nickel base single crystal superalloys. The main industrial application of this class of materials is in gas turbine blades, where the ability to withstand severe mechanical loading in combination with high temperatures is required. 3. 3. Nanoscale Crystal Growth: The Importance of Interfaces and Phase Boundaries Kristallväxt på Nanometer Skala: Vikten av Ytor och Gränser

    Author : Brent Wacaser; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kristallografi; fasjämvikt; Semiconductory physics; Halvledarfysik; thermal and mechanical properties; crystallography; phase equilibria; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:struktur; egenskaper termiska och mekaniska ; Condensed matter:stucture; Fysik; Physics; epitaxy; VLS; MOVPE; CBE; nanostructures; crystal growth; nanowires; III-V semiconductors; growth mechanism; MBE; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Abstract : Surfaces and interfaces have a special significance to nanotechnology because the surface/volume ratio of nanomaterials is larger than for bulk materials. Therefore, interfaces of nanomaterials are usually more important to the properties of nanomaterials than for larger scale materials. READ MORE

  4. 4. Single-crystal Mo/V superlattices : growth, structure, and hydrogen uptake

    Author : Jens Birch; Jan-Erik Sundgren; Bruce M Clemens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Fundamental studies concerning the growth, structural characterization and hydrogen uptake of single-crystal (00 l )-oriented Mo/V superlattices have been performed. The superlattices were grown by dual-target magnetron sputtering in pure Ar-atmosphere < 6·10-3 Torr on (001)-oriented MgO substrates. READ MORE

  5. 5. ZrB2 Thin Films : Growth and Characterization

    Author : Lina Tengdelius; Hans Högberg; Urban Forsberg; Gregory S. Girolami; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Zirconium diboride, ZrB2, is a ceramic material with bulk properties such as high melting point (3245 °C), high hardness (23 GPa), and low resistivity (~8 μΩcm). Thin film growth of ZrB2 using physical vapor deposition has suffered from problems with films deviating from stoichiometry and with high levels of contaminants, especially high oxygen content.
