1. About hyaluronan in the hypertrophic heart : studies on coordinated regulation of extracellular matrix signalling
Abstract : Background. Myocardial hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Independent of underlying disease, the cardiac muscle strives in different ways to compensate for an increased workload. This remodelling of the heart includes changes in the extracellular matrix which will affect systolic and diastolic cardiac function. READ MORE

2. Cardiac hypertrophy : transcription patterns, hypertrophic progression and extracellular signalling
Abstract : Background: The aim of this thesis was to study transcription patterns and extracellular signalling of the hypertrophic heart to better understand the mechanisms initiating, controlling and maintaining cardiac hypertrophy.Cardiac hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. 3. Pathophysiological importance of Beta1-Adrenergic receptor autoantibodies in the development of cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Clinically and experimentally
Abstract : Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart muscle disease of unknown originthat is characterized by ventricular dilation and the impaired contraction of the left orboth ventricles, resulting in progressive heart failure and sudden cardiac death. Antibodiesagainst different cardiac proteins have been found in DCM; they include antibodiesagainst the 1-adrenergic receptor (1AR). READ MORE

4. Role of calcium in developing cellular network : Ca2+ in human fetal neural stem cells and rat neonatal cardiomyocytes
Abstract : This thesis aimed to study Ca2+ homeostasis and its regulation in developing heart and brain cells. Cardiomyocytes rapidly developed a fast calcium machinery, (1) to regulate cytoskeletal protein interactions to the extracellular matrix of neighboring cells through gap junctions, and (2) to induce Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR) from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), (3) to generate rapid energy supply of ATP from mitochondria. 5. Size determination of hyaluronan and multivariate analysis of amyloid prone proteins
Abstract : Background. The extracellular matrix surrounds all cells within our bodies. The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan is a major component in the extracellular matrix. Despite its structural simplicity it has been shown to be involved in several important functions. READ MORE
